  • Going to Atlanta in a couple weeks for a Braves game or two, gonna tour the Sweetwater Brewery while I'm there. I really enjoy SW (420 then Blue then IPA) and have been wanting to try Dank Tank but the only bar in town that ever has it on tap is The Alcove and, for those of you who know about TTown, The Alcove can get a bit pricey... which sucks 'cause their beer selection, especially imported, is pretty damn good.

Speaking of beer and going to Atlanta... a friend of mine has a kegerator (single keg) and gets his beer from a company in Atlanta (forgot the name, I have it on a card somewhere). They get a pretty good selection of kegs in often, I was personally a big fan when he got to bring Fat Tire back, but I have a question for those in the Brew Crew who own or are experts on the topic: If I was looking to get a kegerator (one or two draughts, I'm open to suggestions), what brand should I go with?

  • I've been on a strict Southern Tier kick for a while.... it's definitely my favorite brewery right now. Victory is 2

I got drunk off of Tecate the other night. It was the only semi decent beer at the bar I was at.

  • Two new must trys for the board: Delirium Tremens and Delirium Noctornum. They are Belgian ales, Tremens being pale and Noctornum being dark. Tremens is better IMO but both are well worth sampling.

    Yup, both good choices.

  • During my recent trip to Birmingham, I had the pleasure of sampling several of the Good People Brewery beers. Their IPA is very good, if not a little too subtle, but their Snake Handler (Double Imperial IPA) is a wallop in the face. Good, but the alcohol content packs a pretty big punch.

Recent IPAs I've tried in order of deliciousness:

Southern Star Pine Belt Ale (canned)
    Racer 5 IPA
    Smuttynose IPA
    Bear Republic IPA

Not huge on the Smuttynose myself; tried Good People last week and it is quite good. Cigar City's Jai Alai IPA is also good, but a step below Good People's IMO.

If you can get a hold of that Southern Star Pine Belt Ale it is very, very good.

Edited above post when realized it was Southern Pines...

Good People's Snake Handler is a top shelf imperial. Yes it has a lot of etoh but it is supposed to being an imperial.
Smuttynose IPA is another great beer. It is exceptional when it is really fresh.
I have heard great things about Racer but I haven't come across it.
I will keep my eyes open for the Southern Star Pine Belt Ale. I really like that name.

  • Also the Avondale Brewery in Birmingham, Al will begin producing within the next couple of months. I expect them to make a good product.

I encourage everyone to support them especially during the first year or two. I know the owner and the brews are outstanding. The transition to brewing on a larger scale can be tricky though and there will be an adjustment period. It took Good People a few years to get there alcohol, carbonation and everything else just right with their bigger production model.

So be patient and be supportive. The brewery is just down the street from Parkside bar in Avondale for you Birmingham guys. They won't be serving at the brewery until our state decides to change that law also. However if we support our local breweries we can help support some of the changes that need to occur.

Racer 5 is surprisingly good. A little more hoppy than balanced, but I prefer a lot more hoppy than balanced, so I enjoyed. Smuttynose is significantly more balanced than the Racer 5.

  • Well I had a truly outstanding brew tonight. Those terms get thrown around a lot, but this time it is deserved.

Dogfish Head's "Robert Johnson's Hellhound on my Ale"

Great label, great name, great brewery and absolutely superb brew. They were a special make. I don't know how many bottles are out there, but if you like a big Ale (10% ABV) you absolutely must try this one. If I had an actual top shelf with my favorite beers of all time this would definitely be on it.

Also I drank Stone's Vertical Epic some time a go. Also a great beer. If interested read about it on beer advocate. Some will not like it, but those of us who like unusual beers this is a great one.

  • My fav is Alaskan Amber on tap. I have only had it on the west coast. My fav to drink on a weekly bases around the house or floating around in the pool would be Mich Ultra, yeah I know its a low carb lite beer, but I frickin love it! My favorite cheap beer, is Keith Stone Light. NEVER EVER BITTER! lol!!

  • I have got a buzz on Keystone light quite a few times, might have taken 14,or may have been 18, but I have. If you drink enough and fast enough, you'll get a good buzz. Can't beat the price, 30 pack for 19$. Gotta watch my carbs, trying to keep my old man figure in check.

I think it is just one of those special brews. I don't know if they will produce again. Might find it on the site or their customer service.

    It was great.

Just returned home from an Alaska cruise and had a bunch of Alaskan brews. The Amber wasn't bad, but the Smoked Porter was far and away the best I had. Probably as good a porter as I have tried. Unfortunately, as Boomer alluded to, Alaskan is only available in the western states.
