:Interruption: You commended to me , either in this thread or another Stone [Sublimely] Self Righteous Ale, to which I have to say...Hell yeh, dats a good'un....

Self Righteous is really good. I am glad that you liked it. I have yet to have a brew from Stone that was not excellent. They might be my favorite brewery.

That is probably the best black IPA out there right now. It is in my top 5 beers all time.

Aussie Stone is still my favorite brewery despite some worthy challengers. No other brewery makes each style with the excellence that Stone does. Others may have a single style they do better, but across the board Stone's line up is superior. I started a thread that predated the TBB brew crew thread that began by stating Stone was the best. That thread generated some good discussion.

I completely agree with your assessment of Stone across the board. Every effort is strong to very strong. I've balked on Sublimely several times but I'll def grab a bomber ASAP. I'd say Sierra Nevada also does a great job with consistent excellence although they're brews do not tend to be consistently as big as Stone's. Next in line is Bell's IMO.

  • Had the good fortune of getting Dogfish Head's 120 min. IPA on tap this afternoon. As good as the 90 min. is this, in my opinion, is much better.

I have had the 120 on draught also. It is very good. Not something that you want to drink a lot of though.

Agree with you about Bell's. Very strong lineup. Hopslam might be the best beer in the world, and most of the rest are darn good. They have a few brews that I haven't enjoyed much though (weird flavor combination etc). I have had several of Stone's session brews and other experimentally flavored brews and they all have been great. I recently had Stone's vertical epic. Unusual but f'in great.

They just don't put it on the shelf if it isn't special it seems. Thus they currently wear the crown imo.

  • I am going to have to get one of guys to send me some Hopslam when it comes out this year. I have never had it before. I have wanted to try it for so long and I can't get it where I live.

That's certainly the truth. Where I had it, they were only serving it in 4 oz. portions.

  • Anyone tried New Castle Werewolf? It's a blood red ale, and it is great. Believe it's their new specialty brew, and I've heard it will only be available one month out of the year.

  • So I might get crucified here for this..but it's been a long day and when I got home I was out of my usual beer so I was offered a "Sparks Iced Tea" by my roomate's girlfriend and I accepted..and damn it I enjoyed the hell out of it. Could be the fact that it's 8% alcohol...but to redeem myself I went and bought myself some Sam Adams.

I haven't heard of it before but I want to try it. It sounds awesome.

Tried the Oberon Summer from Bell's last night and it seemed more complex, in a good way, than most summer wheats I've had.

Wish I could try it. I can't get Bells down here.

People assume because Guinness is a stout that it has a really strong flavor but it is actually a very mild tasting beer.

Guinness is maybe the most mild tasting beer there is.... it's almost like drinking a very slightly carbonated cup of weak coffee.... I love guinness so don't take that in a bad way

  • Is Bell's Oberron Summer different than just Bell's Oberron. Oberron is not a seasonal, but just their lighter wheat style beer. It is very good though.

I love Guinness too. One of my favorite beers. I have seriously thought about getting it on draught in my house but the set up is pretty exspensive.

  • Too lazy to see if mentioned on a prior page, but I'm gonna commend to everyone else ITT Lagunitas Lucky 13 Anniversary Release Red Ale.

Always been partial to Stone products...IPA, Ruination, AB, and most recently--upon recommendation from Aussie--Sublimely Righteous Ale, as well as Terrapin [Big Hoppy Monster, Hopsecutioner and others] and Flying Dog Raging Bitch.

But newest favorite Lucky 13 is well worth a try IMO..

  • have you had the Lucky 13 strong ale (woman is a brunette instead of a red head). I have yet to have a bad Lagunitias (sp?) beer.

Had Brewkettle Old 21 last night. Good IPA 9.5 ABV and local in Ohio so it was $3 on tap. Spend $12 and feel like you drank a 12 pack. That is a good night.

Haven't seen the brunetee, but agree regarding Lagunitas products...IPA, Hop Stoopid, Censored, and especially this Lucky 13...all hit the mark IYAM

Will try Brewkettle Old 21 next time I see it.

Their Undercover still might be my favorite. Another really good one is the Wilcon Tango Foxtrot....very unique. I think I lied about the other 13. I think she is a blond.e. Here is a good list, but not a full list since they come out with a lot and then they go away. http://www.lagunitas.com/beers/index.html If I am going to drink a ton of them I like the Kronic (which is now the censored one).

I liked the Brewkettle a lot. Still prefer Breckenridge 471, but for $3 no way I could turn down the Old 21.

  • Stumbled onto a really good IPA at a bar in the Outer Banks last night. It's called Mother Earth Sisters of the Moon and it's well worth a try if you're in eastern N.C.

Many people love Oberon. I do not, but that is because I hate wheat beers as a whole. So I am the worst person to ask. I have tried it though. I grabbed it at a party (it was a Bell's product) not knowing it was a wheat. I promptly gave it away.
