PA is weird though. You have to go to a beer distributor, and you can only buy cases. If you buy a six or twelve pack from a bar its like 20 bucks

I was pleasantly surprised actually. Got a variety pack of 4 belgian abbey ales and a 25 oz. La Trappe Tripel for less than $30. Then again, I'm coming from NYC, where a beer at a bar is $6 or $7 minimum usually.

Yeah, I hear ya. I live in Miami Beach and you cant get a beer for under 7 or 8 bucks anywhere. Nice to be near the beach, but Ill be moving somewhere more reasonable pretty soon. On a side not, Im on a bit of diet this month and not drinking. Cant wait to grab a 6 of Oberon when Im finished.

Nope, you can finally get six packs at the grocery store (or select grocery stores)

Oh word? Man as soon as I leave Philly everything changes for the better. Stop getting snow storms, can get beer at the grocery store. Whats next? Legalize marijuana?

you can now get a pimp tag, but its only good in city limits.

i see alot of states are changing the rules as of lately. Washington just droped the state controled alcohol, soon oregon and idaho will do the same.

Mississippi also just upped their max allowable abv from 5% to 8%.

There are starter kits you can buy.

I would check out Northern Brewer or Williams Brewing websites.

If you enjoy it I recommend getting into all grain brewing.

There are some solid kits out there, and a lot of rubbish ones. The best thing to do is find your local Home Brew store and see if they have a kit put together by the store or buddy up with the owner and he may basically show you what you need to brew 5 gallons with extract (some of the stuff you can buy at a hardware store/walmart for a lot less than what the Home Brew store is going to charge). That is the way I would start. You can find recipes and add specialty grains to make your brews more complex... But get very comfortable with extract brewing before you attempt to do all-grain brewing. The science of all-grain brewing is a bit more complex and if you want to go that route you are going to need to have a few more toys to help you out. But eventually once you get comfortable with brewing and get a nice system down you can be very efficient and make some pretty ambitious beer.

  • Got a store in town to finally carry Schlitz. My favorite cheap beer. IPAs aren't for everyday. Just most days.

Sometimes I drink with people who don't appreciate them. I'd rather drink Schlitz than Bud Heavy or some other sort of urine based beverage.

I got to keep my hipster cred up.

I took a bunch of my dad's old madras shirts and wear them with levi's and tom's when drinking Schlitz. It is glorious.

  • Anybody ever try Bells Two Hearted Ale?

Had some last week, very, very good beer. Extremely hoppy flavor, so much so, that when you take a drink, you get a scent of a greenhouse. Will definitely buy some more. I had it on tap, by the way.

  • Got to go to a Stone tap takeover last night and tried some pretty interesting stuff. They had two casks; Ruination brewed with chinook hops and oak chips, which was really good and a Smoked Porter brewed with Coconut. Also got a surprise sample of the More Brown than Black collaboration which I probably enjoyed the most out of everything.

Bell's Two Hearted Ale is plenty good, and what I would call a great starter IPA (maybe even the best). There are better IPAs out there, but you'll never go wrong with Two Hearted Ale. There are better breweries out there, but you'll never go wrong with Bells.
