  • Aussie,

Just bumped into this thread. The BYC has a mini version of this. This is awesome.

Have you drank the good island county bourbon stout yet? That beer is amazing. Honestly on of the best I've ever had in my life. Drink it slow, very complex and the flavored change throughout.

  • Some of us in the BYC Have been making top 5 lists. Here's my IPA list. Im from chicago which is getting pretty big into the craft beer movement. Not like cali yet but its getting there. Anyone in here feel free to come in and visit. Always fun to talk brews.

    1. Laguniatas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale. New beer on top. Just in the last 2 weeks have i discovered this beer. I drank it side by side with the famous double jack and lagunitas won out. Proud to say this company has landed in Chicago. Great great brewery.
    2. Double Jack by Firestone Walker (CA) formerly my favorite beer. Its drop in rank should not be taken to heart. Much love still for this brew. Still the best year round brew IMO.
    3. Double Fist by Revolution (IL) Another Illinois brew. Very similar to Double Jack, with maybe a bolder taste. Although I am usually a fan of boldness I just couldn't bring myself to jump this beer over DJ.
    4. Stone "Enjoy By" (CA) A beer brewed NOT to last. Described as "Devastatingly fresh", it is hard to argue with. It brings a crispness and quality of flavor that can't be argued with. A very clean tasting IPA.
The beers above are all very closest rated, that is because of their similarity. I love a IPA that is strongly hopped, with a crisp and citrus character. These beers all have that and are in a class of their own.
One beer I suspect will join this class is Three Flouds Dreadnaught Imperial. Have yet to taste it. Great company, but its hard to find. Even just an hour away, in Indiana.
    5. Modus Hoperandi by Ska (CO) Newly added to the list, this beer wins the BEST VALUE AWARD. Simply put, it is exactly what I think of when I describe an IPA to someone who has not tasted an IPA. Only found this a few weeks ago, but it will be a regular in my fridge.

No I haven't had the Goose Island yet. I have a guy sending me a bottle of the Bourbon County Coffee Stout. Really excited about that.

I post on a different board and we have a huge beer thread. We do a lot of trades with each other for beers we can't get in our area.

If you live in Chicago you should be able to get Hopslam. This years batch just started rolling out. Better get your hands on some soon.

  • I figured I would share my Top 5 on this thread as well.
    1. Squatter's Hops Rising

    4. Euphoria Winter Seasonal by Ska (IMO one of the best breweries out there)

So where do you live? You have a pretty good selection available?

    Aussie

  • If I had to choose a top 5:

    1. Bells Hopslam
    2. Odells IPA
    3. Chimay Blue
    4. Snake River Pakos IPA
    5. Terrapin Rye Pale Ale

Honorable Mentions: Bells Two Hearted Ale and Altitude Not Another IPA

I'll be trying Pliny the Elder soon, though, and that will most likely be in my top 5.

All good choices. I haven't had Terrapin but I hear all their stuff is amazing.

Anyone can not accurately have a top 5 that has not tried Alchemist Heady Topper though.

Very nice. That is probably dangerously close. If I lived that close to a beer store I wold be broke.

I spent $150 just yesterday stocking up. Getting some stuff for trades and what not.

ya. you get 1 point towards your membership for every $10 you spend i think. i have well over 250 points if that tells you anything lol ... you can use the points to get free beer/among other prizes. if you reach 5000 points they send you to belgium for a brewery tour. can't imagine ever reaching that amount tho

The coffee is extremely expensive. Never had that one.

You will like it. Their specialty beers are pretty well thought of.

These trades sound fun. After I get a sense for what people like on here ill send out a proposal or two.
