  • 8:45 tee time tomorrow. I am ready. Hit up the practice green tonight for about an hour.

  • Lucky. I haven't been out in two weeks. Was sick and now the weather is horrible.

  • I've been playing at this country club lately and it's the hardest damn course I've ever played. Every f'ing hole is crazy long and the greens are insanely fast.

The course I play is similar. It is a fairly open course but if you don't place your shots in the right spot there are strategically placed trees that will always be in your way.

Ones of the courses I play at (I play on the tips) is really long, lots of dog legs left, and right. Lots of woods, lots of heather, lots of water. Really hard course.

I have the most fun on it though, I love being challenged by that stuff.

  • Just shot a 36. Was missing putts the first six holes then finished by finally sinking them. Going to be a good summer.

Not sure if I'll ever shoot a 36, and I consider myself a good amateur golfer. Shooting a 72 is something I have never done in about 11 years of golf.

One of my new friends is a really good golfer and has helped me out quite a bit. Redid my swing and I am a lot more consistent. Plus he taught me a new way of chipping and I am much more accurate and able to attack harder pin placements.

  • I'm starting to get frustrated with all the distance I have lost. I used to bomb the ball... then got diagnosed with arthritis and my distance has regressed significantly. I can't believe that Phil Mickelson is still able to play at that high of a level and still bomb the ball with arthritis. Maybe his isn't as severe...

I love fast greens... can't stand the slow greens right now here in Michigan. I just hate having to hit putts really hard. I find that fast greens are much more consistent from hole to hole. How long is the country club you are playing at? My home course is 6,700 from the tips.

Congrats man. Now it is time to strive for 80.

I actually got to 80 fairly quick after I started shooting below 90. Hope it goes well for you.

MUCH harder to go down from 80s to 70s than from 90s to 80s. At least in my experiences.

I agree with this. It took me a lot longer to get down to into the 70s than it did from me getting to the 80s.

Only took me 1 1/2 years to shoot my first 69 since I shot my first 70.

Still remember that day, was on par to shoot a 70 till the last hole and made a 20 foot birdie putt to get me to 69. Was the best day of my golf life.

It took me about 3 or 4 months from the first time I broke 90 to the first time I broke 80. I have only broke 70 once ever and I was on fire that day. Still not sure what I did right that day. Just hit every shot flush.

Short game, short game, short game. Once you get a good short game, the low scores will start coming in. Get some nice Vokey or 588 Wedges with a 3 piece ball like the ProV1s, and get your chipping to start checking.

Makes it extremely easy to leave me 4/5 ft putts, tap ins for me. I will go on a putting green and practice putting for 1 to 2 hours after a round sometimes.

Yep. When I started taking my short game seriously I started seeing a major difference.

Just practice everything within 100 yards. If you're by yourself and the course isn't pack, and you have left yourself a difficult shot, drop 5 or 6 more balls every time. Do it with hard putts, chip shots, sand shots.

The best and quickest way to get good with the short game.

I practive my wedges more than anything. By far the best part of my game.

  • My biggest thing is I don't get to play that much. I will get there one day though.

I've never really been that big of a fan of vokey wedges... although the next set I get will probably be them. (I'm starting to go all titleist)

Right now I have nike VR wedges that are the models from 2 years ago... I bought them right before they stopped making them because I really wanted the Square grooves. Obviously newer models for all companies are the conforming grooves. I can spin the VR's like crazy though, it's ridiculous how much of a difference they make.

Oh and totally agree with ProV1s. I don't use any other type of balls around the green. I actually switch balls while I'm playing when I use my wedges because I tear the sh!t out of the balls.

Look up the new 588 wedges. I just bought a 52 degree one and it is amazing.

  • shot a 48 today best score of my life. I hit every drive and 2nd shot solid and mostly straight it was wild. still cant figure out short chipping I am so atrocious at it, either hit it insane short or just rocket it over the green. didnt make one par and didnt shoot over a 6.

obviously I'm not awesome at golf but I am getting better all the time. its really fun having a day where I didnt blow up and explode on any hole.
