I am a Taylormade freak. I love their product and have never been disappointed. I also love Titleist and Ping for irons.

I own the R9 irons and plan on having them for quite awhile. You can get some really nice Mizuno irons if you want to stay that route, and they make a quality club as you already know. You can get the R9's for around $500 these days. I bought them about a month after they came out for $1100. Should have waited, but they are worth it.

Go to Dicks, grab a R9 7 Iron, a titleist MB 7 Iron, and a Mizuno JPX Pro 7 Iron. Hit them, and let me know what you think. I'm actually very curious about those new Mizunos.

brother in law just got the new Mizunos Jpx. Said they were harder to hit than anticipated, but once you learn them they are amazing.

Love Mizzuno blades, but don't play enough now. I like my Ping Is since they are still pretty thin. I can't hit the bottom heavy clubs.

    mine are really old.

  • I'm a 5 handicapper so I am looking to get pro-level clubs.

I was looking at the Callaway Razr X tour irons and the Nike Victory Red Blades

I was looking at the TaylorMade Burner 2.0 b/c I gained 15 yards on each club but they're way to forgiving.

Tough decision especially dealing with so much money

Caledonia is a beautiful course and well worth the money. About 100 sand traps, but it is an absolute blast to play there.

Thanks Mountie, I will give it a try when I go down there in a few weeks

Aussie!!!! Just thought of a brilliant idea.

You should come over to Emerald Isle, NC and play in the Purple Heart Classic. A lot of prizes to be given out. Cash, a car for a hole-in-one, free golf for a year, ect... 4 player team scramble, so you don't even have to be great, just serviceable. June 4th. I can't wait!!!1!!1!one!!!1!

I wonder what air fare to there would cost? What course is it on? I would consider doing it. Would I be on your team?

Over near Camp Lejeune. Its about a 4 hour drive from downtown Charlotte. Its a charity tournament with a lot of prizes involved. I have a team of 4 as it stands right now, but if there are enough BB'ers close enough to play then that would be a blast.

I will see what I can do. If we can get a team together I would love to play.

  • Played the Nike 20xi-x today and I was thoroughly impressed with wedges and irons. However, off the tee and putting, it feels like your hitting a rock. It's so hard that it is uncomfortable.

Putting is the same deal. Just awful feel off the tee and on the putter.

With the irons and wedges it is soft and spins nicely.

    TJMMBuckeyes

  • I also have recently tried the New Pro V1's.

    Wow, have they improved.

They aren't as soft but that is the ONLY con that I have on this ball.

The old ones used to get chewed up after a hole or two and now.

Now, they are so durable. Not even a mark besides when I hit it off a fence behind a green. Barely even a scratch. Little gray mark on the cover barely noticeable.

The distance off the tee is crazy. Improved ball flight off the tee and with the irons as well.

The putting line also isn't so annoying.

If you're a good irons player, that can spin the ball, and need a little help off the tee- these are highly recommended.

Would you recommend them over the Penta?

I'm sure they are much better than the Callaway HX Bite, but I just love those damn balls around the green. Bad off the tee though.

I have never been a fan of Nike Golf.

Interesting about the Pro V1x. I gave them a try last year and had the same problems that you are describing. Every time I hit a full wedge shot I knew that ball was going to get scuffed.

Have you tried the Tour series balls by Callaway? That is what I play and I like them more than the Pentas or the Pro Vs.

  • This would be my top golf balls:

    First Tier

    1. TaylorMade Penta
    2. Titleist Pro V1
    3. Callaway Ft iz
    4. Ttitleist Pro V1x
    5. Bridgestone B330-RX

    Second tier

    1. Srixon Z Star X
    2. Callaway is
    3. Bridgestone tour b330
    4. Nike 20xi
    5. Bridgestone e7

Ehh, it really depends on what you need. I think the Penta is a little bit of everything. It gets bite, distance, accuracy, and feel.

I prefer Penta just because of the way I've been scoring with them

Penta is by far my favorite ball with the new Pro V1 in a very very close second.

The new Pro V1 is just massive off the tee, for me, and it still has the iron playability and spin, the short game spin, etc.

I really score well on par 3's when playing the new pro v1

Interesting. My favorite ball right now is the Penta followed closely by the Srixon Z Star.

Aussie, I have played the Callaway is and iz. Prefer the is, but I am one of those players that demand a soft ball. My weakness is around the green, so I need all the help I can get in that area.

If you haven't played the Srixon Z Star, play it. Now.

Yeah, they're improved but you won't catch me spending $46 on them. Same, never been a fan of anything nike but the sq sumo woods and the Victory Red blades.

I used to like the pro v1x but I just couldn't hit them straight for some reason. Idk what it was

Yeah, I wish there was a way to be able to but a dozen balls with all sorts of different balls in them just for a flat price.

    I'd have:
    3 penta's
    2 new pro v1's
    2 bridgestone b330 rx
    2 srixon z star x
    1 callaway is
    1 callaway iz
1 new prov1x to try them out

You must like them really soft. The (is) is very soft. Any softer than that and I will put scuffs on the ball if you hit it to hard.
