tBB Golf Thread: Our Balls Really Fly

  • Horrible round of golf today..... lost 4 balls ( 3 on one par 3 hole!!!!!) and almost got into a fight with the group ahead of us. Looking forward to going back out there and playing better.

Oh, I know the pain. Golf Smith usually has a large selection of demo clubs in left-handed form, which is where I do all my testing before I buy anything. But than after that, I have to buy nearly everything on the internet. But I think that works out better in the end, I end up finding the better prices that way.

Drivers and putters are really the only thing I can buy in a store.

    I know what you mean.

It's such a pain in the ass.

Ya, but it's always a lot of fun for me when I play with a group of people I don't know and step up too the first tee and they say "Ooooh got ourselves a lefty" and than I beat them by 10 strokes.

  • Haven't read the thread really, but Aussie if you are struggling with your putter try a new grip. I was cross handed for a few years in HS and have been using the claw for like 3 or 4 years now. Easier switch than the long putter and both can help keeping your wrists still. Not trying to toot my own horn but I am the best putter I know and have been putting with weird grips for 6 years now.

I have tried the claw before. I actually putted a lot better last weekend. Thanks for the tip though. If I could get better with my putter I would be playing pretty good.

Also take the line on the side of your ball and use that to aim instead of eye-balling it. And also make sure you don't move your arms or anything, the entire putting strokes is by turning your shoulders. Do those two things, and you'll see your putting improve.

Also for some practice, get a straight-in putt and get 5-10 golf balls. 1st ball 1ft from the hole, second ball a foot behind the first, third ball, a foot behind the second and so on and so forth. Do your routing for each ball, start with the closest and work your way out. The trick is, you have to make every putt or start over. Helps you practice, routine, accuracy and touch.

It is in my head more than anything. I just have the yips. I have a bad back so when I bend over a put I get uncomfortable. That is why I was thinking of going to a long putter so I don't have to bend over so much.

Was it Charyl that used a long putter at the Masters? He appeared to be doing well with it.

It was Adam Scott. That is what gave me the idea. He has a bad back as well.

Is the long putter longer than a driver? How would you keep it in your bag?

  • After a couple of days with the super fast, I've still made no decision on whether I like it or not.

I play a stiff shaft and for some reason I bought an Extra Stiff for my new driver, that may be it.

    Going to play later

I ended up not getting to play. We didn't get out there in time and got rained out.

If you can find the right place, they will watch and analyze your swing through a video camera and software to find the best shaft for you. Things like swing speed, club head speed, ball speed, and ball travel all are affected by the type of shaft you have. I believe that going up to a EX Stiff shaft is your problem, you have to put a numerous amount of lag in your swing to produce enough power to need a EX Stiff.

When I'm recommending people for shafts, the highest I usually go is Stiff. Rarely do I recommend someone go for a EX Stiff.

Group too slow or did you hit into them by accident?

They were playing way too slow. It was a 4some and they were all hitting 2 balls... even on the par 5 holes. Pissed me off so bad. I understand hitting one or more balls (if no one is behind you) on the par 3 if you hit it in the water (like i did 3 times) but not on par 4 or 5 just to see if you can out hit your first ball.

Slow players who don't let you pass really piss me off. I had a situation like this last year, had a 4-some in head of me, I was out by myself for a practice round. They wouldn't let me pass so I said "Screw it, I'm hitting over them". These were older people driving the ball about 230 on the farthest, so I let them get to their balls and I nailed a ball about 70 yards passed them.

They got my point and let me play through finally. They gave me some bad looks as I passed them, I said "If you want to play slow and not the fast groups play through, that is what is going to happen." They never said anything and I finished my round of 18 as they just finish Hole 11.

    This happened on hole 5.

Prolly would have said something myself. Even if I'm playing with a group and we feel like the group behind us is faster or pushing us, we just let them play thru. What you described above is way over the line and ridiculous
