tOfficial Michigan/Alabama @ Jerryworld thread

  • I am looking forward to this game almost as much as I look forward to tOSU game each year. I had plans to go, the wife vetoed it for a Disney World trip instead...

Anyway, I would like more info on Alabama, and some of the sites you guys read for Bama news. I will be linking places that I get Michigan news and I will update the OP with links given by other Michigan fans, and by Alabama fans. I will also link past discussion with Bama fans that have taken place at Woverine247.

    Michigan links,
http://mgoblog.com/ One of the best for getting all things Michigan.
http://mgoblog.com/category/user-tags/alabam-2012 Recent article from Mgoblog on Alabama.
http://holdintherope.blogspot.com/ This site did a whole position by position breakdown of Alabama.
http://touchthebanner.blogspot.com/ He covers recruiting more than the game, but I like the countdown of impact Michigan players for the 2012 season.
    http://thisismichiganfootball.blogspot.com/ Strictly a recruiting site.

    Alabama links,

Past threads on the game at Jerryworld,

Edit: As has been shown, we need a link for the MSU fans to troll in. http://247sports.com/Board/30/The-Official-Michigan-State-and-Michigan-Thread-2334707/1

I was going to wait until June 11th, but I decided to jump the gun.

This is something to get started and to update as the game gets closer and closer.

They are going to lose - by a lot. I am looking forward to watching Denard play 500 with the 'Bama defense.

Maybe Alabama needs extra security to protect against unabombers? shrug

  • Poor Alabama's defense, they won't know what to do after Denard blows by them into the endzone.

LOL - you've had two other Wolverines post and they both trolled.

Nonetheless, I honestly don't think UM has a shot in this game. UM had some fortunate luck last year and, while improved, they aren't good enough to beat 'Bama over 60 minutes. I think it'll be relatively low scoring in the 24-10 range.

    um has a shot....

bama is real good and will probably win the game but we have all seen much greater upsets in college football thru the yrs...

um over bama would not be craziest upset everyone is making it out to be...

imo it begins and ends with denard, if he can convert some key 3rd downs and not throw it up for grabs um has a shot...

this buckeye fan is rooting for blue that day!

    good luck!

Actually, I think it will depend on UM's defense. We cannot win a shootout against Alabama. IMO if Bama scores more than about 20 points, we will have a very tough time keeping pace.

This year will also feature, what, 3 returning starters on Alabama's defense? I like Michigan's chances with Denard going against Bama breaking in a new defense.

Agreed with this. Our defense is the key, the play of the front 4 specifically.

The back seven is great, the front four is hard to predict right now. Jibreel Black could be an animal at DT and all Michigan would need is Campbell to be a space eater and take up double teams. I'm excited to see what Roh does this season, could be very valuable to the final result of the season. Clark is a man child at WSDE, but puts his head down on some plays and makes bad reads. Him and Beyer could make a deadly duo though.

Our defense returns 6 guys who have started a significant number of games.

Damion Square and Jesse Williams on the DL

Nico Johnson and CJ Mosley at LB

Robert Lester and Demarcus Milliner at DB

  • I honestly believe our big uglies will dominate this game on both offense and defense.

Running QBs have always given us trouble in the past (all of Sabans losses since 08 have been to dual threat QBs; Tebow, Garcia, Newton, Jefferson) but I don't see Denard having more than 70 yards rushing against us.

Score will seem relatively close until the 4th, then we break it open after we've worn Michigan down

  • What do you wanna know? I can give you what I think will be our starting line up and a bunch of our 2nd team dudes and their strength and weaknesses(At least if they played last year)

Lebron James is easily the best basketball player in the league currently...

This is what I'm worried about, especially your OL. We need to be able to stop your rushing game and force you to pass. I just don't know if we can do it. We are replacing our two best DL and with this being the first game of the season it's unlikely our new starters on the DL will be operating at 100%. We need to hope you have some similar issues, i.e. new starters who need a few games to begin to perform as well as the players they are replacing.

Good news is though that it usually takes a little bit for an O-line to gel together. Jones is in a "new" position, relative to starting there for extended periods. Cyrus takes over at LT. That being said, I would pray they aren't having a good game because this is the best O-line in the nation. Will be a good learning experience win or loss for y'alls D-line.

  • With Bama's strong offensive line ( 4 of 5 returning starters and 5* CyKo taking over at LT ) and RBs, plus Michigans new d- linemen, I think we'll run all over that D. And McCarron came on strong at the end of last year with a talented set of junior WRs I think we'll pass enough to keep the running game open. I see Bama scoring 31 on Michigan's D.

Much is made if Bama's losses on D but everyone save the Juco corners has seen significant PT. Our D will be top 5 in total D at season's end and Michigan will put up some points but IMO most will come after the game is decided. I think Michigan puts 17 up on our D, with 10 coming in the second half.

The only place I can see us having trouble is DB. Denard is gonna have to show he's improved as a passer to win this game
