With Bama's strong offensive line ( 4 of 5 returning starters and 5* CyKo taking over at LT ) and RBs, plus Michigans new d- linemen, I think we'll run all over that D. And McCarron came on strong at the end of last year with a talented set of junior WRs I think we'll pass enough to keep the running game open. I see Bama scoring 31 on Michigan's D.

Much is made if Bama's losses on D but everyone save the Juco corners has seen significant PT. Our D will be top 5 in total D at season's end and Michigan will put up some points but IMO most will come after the game is decided. I think Michigan puts 17 up on our D, with 10 coming in the second half.

The only way i see Bama putting up 31 is if Michigan's O really struggles and/or turns the ball over a lot. By Michgan's O struggling i mean going 3 and out almost every possession.

This year will also feature, what, 3 returning starters on Alabama's defense? I like Michigan's chances with Denard going against Bama breaking in a new defense.

We don't break in new defenses. Almost every single guy who starts will have had significant experience.

There's a difference between having significant experience and playing together as a unit. Have all 11 guys had significant experience playing together on the field at once?

As you should know, DL isn't the only position that attacks the LOS.

Yea. It's called spring and summer practice.

Our defense has the speed, talent, and experience to be our typical "at least Top 5 defense" again this year.

You guys score at most 14 points.

You really don't think Al Borges knows how to beat a Cover-1?
    no

  • I like our chances with it being the opener and Saban having all offseason to prepare for Denard.

Saban typically punishes people in these kickoff games. I think it will be a good one though.

lol yeah practice is the same thing as a game.

I didn't say you didn't have the talent to be a top 5 D. I think it's incredibly arrogant to say with all the guys you lost from last years D that in the first game of the season your D is going to be dominant. In mid season form.

We'd lose a lot of money playing a home-and-home with Texas. We'd lose a 7th home game, and millions in revenue. We were paid almost as much as we get from a game in Michigan Stadium to play 'Bama in Texas.

We don't need to be because I don't think Denard will have progressed enough and if he his inconsistent game against us where he's throwing 40-50% and ducks, its game over.

And don't talk about him turning him the speed or any of that junk. Our LBs could probably catch him in the right situations.

Nope but if your front four are negligible against our o line and you give our RBs that free first 2-3 yards then they'll average at least 5 ypc.

And honestly because our D is always so good people underestimate our O.

Well that's great. 40-50%? You do realize he completed over 60 percent of his passes in a season before? I don't see any reason he won't progress to that point in his second year under Borges.

Now your second statement is funny. If your LBs or safeties are taking bad angles or get out of position he will be walking into the endzone.

But it's all good. I should of known there would be the homer Bama fans who wouldn't show Michigan any respect. We all know Bama is just an NFL team. /S

We lost a lot from 2009 to 2010 and still had a top 5 D with three losses. This year's unit has more experience and just as much talent.

So IMO it's good sense to expect similar results and not arrogance.

Yeah, we just play straight man coverage. No zone or blitzing except on third. The reason for our success of late can mostly be ascribed to not playing against Al Borges. We're toast now.

With a single safety over the top-- that's Cover-1, man. shrug

[Edit: Look at the shift on the first play, it should be clear as day.]

The only place I can see us having trouble is DB. Denard is gonna have to show he's improved as a passer to win this game

Denard's passing will improve in 2012. You can look at the improvement he made by the end of the season last year as well as his stats from 2010. He took a big step backward in 2011, primarily in the first half of the season, because he was learning a new offense. He is not nearly as bad of a passer as many people seem to think (ask OSU and Nebraska fans how well he threw against them last year). The bigger issue is finding someone to replace Junior Hemingway at WR. Roy Roundtree will be back, but we need a another WR to step up and be a second true deep threat. We have several very good and experienced slot receivers, but no proven wideouts. We have 2-3 guys with potential, but no one who has yet shown they can do it on the field.

Agree. All of our new starters have significant experience, too. The question is how quickly they can adjust to the starter role and gel with the returning starters as a unit. And Bama is not immune to the same issues.

You may be right on that but Saban does not lose many games when he has this long to prepare for them. I have a feeling that he is going to give Denard fits.

I think it will be a good game but I think we will win it. I wouldn't expect a Michigan fan to think they will do anything but win either though.
