I'll never forget when I was in college a few years ago and was eating at Firehouse for lunch...a 30-35 year old guy walks in wearing a pair of wayfarers, but doesn't remove them after walking in the door. He stands in line for about five minutes with the ray-bans still on. He gets up to the front, and makes his order and pulls out his debit card to pay. At Firehouse they make you show your ID if you pay with a debit/credit card, so the girl working the register asks him to take off the sunglasses for identification, and he does. I'm thinking maybe he was just lazy at first but will leave them off now since he had an excuse to remove them, but no. The jackass puts them back on, sits down and eats, and then bounces. I just couldn't believe it.

I can't speak for others, but I've worn my sunglasses inside on more than several occasions. The number one reason is that figuratively, the eyes are the gateway to the soul. I don't want people to be able to read me. I don't want people to be able to guage what I'm thinking. I don't want people to know whether or not I'm looking at them, beyond them, or around them. It's just one of those things where you want people in the dark. I know that probably sounds borderline psychotic, but I'm a stoic person. I have to use whatever tricks I can because otherwise, people liken me to an open book and I really don't like being read. When I want you to know what I'm thinking, I'll tell you.
