your opinion on what Barkley said...

he laughed at Kobe thinking this team would beat the Dream Team. He said other than James, Bryant and Durant, nobody on this team would have even made the Dream Team.

    Thoughts?

He was right, the Dream Team would bury this team.

Magic barely even played in the 1992 olympics because of his knee plus he was in his 30s

Actually Magic played in all but one game and had to play more than he was originally expected as Stockton got hurt early in the Olympics and only played in 2 games. He did sit out one game, but was one of the leaders in minutes played in the rest of the games, finished 2nd in assists to Pippen for the Olympics.

And Pippen isn't half the scorer Lebron is. One of the big problems when comparing eras is how the game and players have changed, it makes it really difficult to compare. For instance, Lebron is a good 30-40 lbs heavier than Pippen.

And this is coming from a bitter Cavs fan...

    And?

Pippen didn't have to score. He just led the team in assists and shot 60% from the field, not to mention being 2nd on the team in steals to Jordan.

Lebron's a great player, no one is doubting that. He would be one of the two players I would put on the Dream Team along with Durant.

The issue is which team was better and that's not even close, but to say that one of the greastest defenders to ever live wouldn't give a guy that does stuggle at times with dribble penetration and settles for an outside shot too often problems is crazy.

clap I hated Pippen, but that hatred was driven by how superior of a talent he was on a team that beat the Pistons.

how did he play with his knee? From what i read and all said he was no where near his prime. I am sure LeBron wouldnt have a problem guarding him.

I don't agree with this statement.

I also don't agree with Kobe saying this team would beat the Dream Team. If I were Barkley--which thankfully I am not--, I would simply tell Kobe to "kiss the gold, bisch". Kobe's team hasn't won anything. Until he wins gold, he is simply pissing his opinion in the wind.

He had just won the MVP of the all star game in 1991 I believe. He could still play. He had a bum knee but still played.

  • Lebron, Kobe, and Durant would have been 3 of the best 5 players on the dream team. The rest of the 2012 team is a drop off to be sure, and I don't think 2012 would win head to head, but those three are going to be all time great players.

  • Also, lets be honest, no one on the 2012 team would be afraid to touch Magic.

There's a lot of people that people might think wouldn't have a problem guarding Magic, but to do it is completely different. If it wasn't for the HIV issue that he retired from, Magic would played another 5 years.

It was the '92 All-Star game that he played in after retiring and not being in the game for almost a year. He was great, even then.

    NO!

Kobe may not even have made the team at this point in his career. Yes, he has had a better career than some of those guys, but they were in the prime of their careers for the most part and Kobe in a few years past his.

If they were taking 2 SG, which they did, I would have taken Jordan and Drexler in their prime at the time over Kobe at this point in his career.

I would have had Pippen ahead of Durant for defensive purposes (Durant is still early in his career and you don't need a 25+ ppg at every position), but Durant would have been on the team probably instead of either Mullin or Bird.

Lebron would have been one of the better players, but Jordan, Magic, Malone, and Barkley were better, IMO.

  • If I had to pick, I would obviously pick the '92 team. I just don't think the thought of the current team winning is that crazy. We're talking about the best players in the NBA playing one game. Anything could happen.

So, this team COULD beat the '92 team, but they aren't the better team top to bottom.

It's not the best players in the NBA though.......and the NBA is not what it was in 1992. The growth of college football and the NFL over the last 20 years has changed a lot of the path that many players take at the high school level.

Kobe wouldve made the team... Thats a fact.

Like I said, Ewing, Robinson, CB34, and MJ wouldve won in for 92. But, it would have been close. Kobe is past his prime, but is still more fundamentally sound than Drexler. Especially in the mid range gm.

The athleticism of this yrs squad would most likely keep it close.

If this yrs squad had all of their players (Howard, Rose, Wade, Bosh) then I would give the nod to '12.

    CRgator1

  • Healthy Rose
    Lebron
    Durant
    Howard
    Bynum

    With subs of
    CP3
    Kobe
    DWade
    Love
    TChan

Would be a series for the ages. With the exception of Bynum, that starting five is ridiculously athletic. But with Dwight and Bynum, the Dream teams size would be matched and more. Not depth down low, though.

Then you are way too young to be commenting on Clyde Drexler or just a homer.

Kobe was better.....was better than Drexler, but 2012 Kobe is not what 1992 Drexler was. Drexler still had prime years and NBA championships ahead of him. I seriously doubt Kobe has that. Plus, you are not taking into consideration that Kobe just cam off an injury plagued season and is facing on offseason in which he needs to be recovering more and probably won't put in the minutes that he did in 2008.

Agreed. 2012 Kobe doesnt touch prime Drexler.

Kobe averaged like 28 or 29 ppg last year. He is just barely removed from his prime.
