think they will be fine.. they are just struggling with adversity... they ll figure it out

They have a favorable end to the conference schedule, so that will help. They still have 5 home games left, so if they win those 5 they are in no question.

  • Unless Bama completely tanks, they're in. Very easy schedule until the SEC Tournament.

    I will agree with that.

Which is why I put them in the "should be in" rather than the "lock" category.

Ah crap I read your post wrong. I agree that they "should be in" at this point.

    Not a problem.

The problem for the Big 12 is how does it manage to get a 5th team qualified? Right now it has the three locks in Kansas, Baylor, and Missouri, and Iowa State as a should be in (and will probably get there), but can any of the other teams make it?

K-State is in the lead now, but it has road games left against Baylor, Missouri, Texas, and A&M, and has to face Kansas and Iowa State in Bramlage. Its OOC wins over Alabama and Long Beach State show it merits consideration, but I think it will be hard pressed to finish above .500 in conference.

Texas has a good win over Temple, but that was at home, and doesn't have much else to feel proud about in the non-conference record, thanks to UCLA being such a bunch of bums this year. (Did you catch them blow the 10 point lead with 6 minutes to go last night against Washington?) Being already at 3-6, it will extremely hard for Texas to beat .500 in the conference even though it has the easiest schedule left for anyone in the conference. It still has 6 games left against Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and A&M and will get to host Baylor and K-State before going off to get clubbed in Lawrence.

Oklahoma's best OOC win is against Arkansas. In conference it swept K-State. It is finished with Kansas (lost both), has a pair against Texas, a pair against ISU, hosts Missouri and goes to Baylor in the 9 remaining games, and it closes the season with three straight road games.

Oklahoma State has a murderous schedule left--two games against Kansas, at Missouri, at K-State, hosting Baylor, ISU, Texas. While they get credit for having a tough nonconference schedule, they get no credit for losing all those tough games.

A&M is sitting a 3-6 in conference like Texas, and has a relatively easy schedule remaining since they are finished with Baylor get Kansas and Missouri in College Station. Even so, that poor start makes them unlikely to beat .500 in the conference, and their OOC record is bad--a one point win over St. John's is their best OOC win, and they had one of the weakest NC schedules of anyone.

At 9-9, K-State should be a decent bet to make it and Texas longer shot but still within possibility. The rest can forget it, unless they win the conference tournament.

That will be tough if the committee is fair IMHO.

Well, if K-State or Texas go on a run and finish at 10-8 or even better in the conference, they're pretty obviously in. After you account for 18 teams getting auto bids while being outside the top 50 in rpi, you have 50 spots left for the tournament. You'd be extremely hard pressed to find 50 teams better than either of those two.

  • I'm thinking Kansas State or Texas will get in as the fifth team.

Maybe, but they both have to finish strong and/or show well in the conference tournament. I would not want to play either in the first 2 rounds.

True, and this was the whole point of my exegesis higher in this thread. Unless one of those teams finishes strong, the conference gets 4 bids.

  • I have one mote complaint, Iowa should be a lock IMO. Just look at what we're doing to Penn State right now!!

  • It's pretty sad that the Pac 10 gets at least a guaranteed team. With all the mid majors playing well this season, it's a shame that some are going to be left out. Pac 10 in CBB is what the Big East is to CFB.

  • If there was any doubt about somebody other than KSU or Texas getting in as a fifth Big 12 team, that's over after today, since OU lost at home to ISU, OSU lost at home to Baylor, and A&M lost to K-State. Pretty rough year for A&M, losing Middleton for so many games and now Harris, too.

In a game that has seeding implications, Kansas is up 4 on Missouri, make that one after MU hits a 3, with 7:30 to go. KU scoring easily inside in the second half, so it may be very hard for MU to pull it out.

Way to break it down! Nice.

    agreed

  • So MU doubles Robinson when he gets the ball down the stretch and scored the last 11 points of the game to win 74-71. Three way tie for the Big 12 lead among Baylor, Kansas, and Missouri with Missouri being 2-0 against the other two and Baylor being 0-2.

  • Kansas- 8-2
    Mizzou- 8-2
    Baylor- 8-2
    Iowa St- 7-3

One of these things is not like the others. Imagine how shocking it would be if ISU somehow manage to tie for first. I'm not saying it will happen, but with all of this talk of the "big three" in the Big 12 it would be pretty funny for ISU to get in there at number one. Pretty good for a team picked to finish 9th preseason.

Very true. They won yesterday by 7 on the road with Royce White only attempting 1 field goal and scoring 3 points. Proved that they can still score if double or triple team White.

Yeah pretty much. I follow Northern Iowa too. But I pull for Iowa first and foremost.
