Bob Gibbons Day 2 Afternoon notes...

It's been a very good day here in Raleigh. I have conserved gas money but staying local and checking out some very good players. Here are a few notes on guys I have seen this morning/afternoon. Bracket play is set to get underway around 6pm.

    - 2013 forward Kennedy Meeks has picked up offers from Maryland and Miami in the past month. North Carolina State is also starting to show very strong interest. He plans to visit all three sometime this summer. Meeks (West Charlotte HS/NC) did not have his best morning as far as scoring but moves extremely well for a player his size (6'8, 250) and is very skilled as far as using the backboard and passing the ball.

    - 2013 wing Brandon Stith really opened my eyes with his play. The 6'7, 190 pound prospect handles the ball well enough to play the wing but will need to continue to improve in that area, however it is something that I expect him to do. He plays with Gardner Road 16s alongside Isaiah Hicks and Anton Gill. Stith currenty holds an offer from Virginia but Clemson, Xavier and Virginia Tech are all starting to show interest. He is a player I expect to pick up several more high major offers by the end of the summer.

    - Speaking of Isaiah Hicks the 6'7, 200 pound forward has had an impressive week thus far. Last night he went for 22 points and 14 this afternoon when I saw him. I am surprised more mid majors have not already offered Hicks although I expect it is because they know he will end up a high major. Clemson, Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina State and several others have shown interest in Hicks who uses his length to be a real force on the defensive end of the floor. Offensively he does a great job of grabbing rebounds and putting them back, he is also strong from about eight feet in.

    - One prospect who really caught my eye is North Carolina wing Shane Whitfield. He was originally in the 2012 class but has elected to re-class to 2013. Whitfield is a 6'6 200 pound wing player that really does a great job of getting to the basket. Despite his size he has an impressively quick step and can finish around the rim with contact. Several mid to low majors have offered him but I believe he is a player that could end up jumping on to several radars this summer playing with Team Loaded 16s.

    - I spoke with T.J. Warren following his 41 point eruption this afternoon. He has not narrowed his list but plans to visit North Carolina State next week. He will also be visiting Florida and Georgetown in the month of June. The visit to the Hoyas is currently set for June 23-25.

    - 2012 Andrew White named several schools that had either offered or where showing interest. The offers he did remember were South Florida, George Mason, Virginia Tech and Utah. He did mention that Coach Rob Moxley at North Carolina State had been on him pretty hard of late. He would like to take visits to Miami and South Florida in the near future. He has no favorites and is wide open at the moment.

  • Hicks has said UNC is the only school he's considering, wonder if it gets him an offer.

I wonder if Meeks got offers from the Frank Haith Miami staff and the Gary Williams Maryland staff, or the new ones (Larranaga and Turgeon)?

Offers came from both new staffs. He said he had much more contact with the Miami staff and could not remember the name of the Maryland coach that contacted him.

Right now I would say no. Hicks is going to be a very good player but I foresee the Tar Heels making him an offer at this point in time.

Gotta be Dalonte Hill since he had good connections to Team United when he was at Charlotte.
