** Breaking Basketball News … There have been times under Thad Matta when the Ohio State men’s basketball team didn’t have a walk-on on the roster. Therefore, we weren’t going to be surprised if there wasn’t a walk-on playing for the Buckeyes this season.
However, a source informs us that 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard Alex Rogers from Cincinnati Oak Hills has joined the team as the 13th member of the squad and the lone walk-on. (It was announced Monday morning that freshman forward LaQuinton Ross is academically ineligible, a story that Bucknuts broke last month in the House.)
Rogers played his first two collegiate seasons at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. As a freshman in 2009-10, he started seven of 27 games, and averaged 3.5 points and 2 rebounds per game. As a sophomore in 2010-11, he started 27-of-28 games, and averaged 5.1 points and 2.9 rebounds.
He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Ohio State and is eligible to play this season.
