Early winners and losers

We look at a dozen pre-season contenders and recap their first 12 weeks and the steps they have made so far.

  • How is Syracuse going to be your third best team when they just lost to an unranked Temple team?

  • How does any list like this not include Kansas, a team that lost arguably the best player in college basketball last year (and arguably the best guard too)? They're currently one of 3 teams in the Top 10 in KenPom for both AdjO and AdjD. Other than the hiccup early on against Michigan State, they've been flat-out dominant over good teams.

  • It took a minute to get these up on the network and it was written prior to, SU vs Temple and Kansas vs OSU. With that being said, Syracuse, went from losing four key components and gave some bit players bigger roles and they fit in, quite nicely. They haven't missed on much, the Temple game was very important for Temple and the A10. Kansas was untested prior to taking it to Ohio State. The Jayhawks have two pros that are providing great production in McLemore and Withey and Elijah Johnson has done a great job moving over to the point this season. If Young can develop into a second post, Kansas will be a tough out. I also question how good the rest of the Big 12 is this year, which could mean many wins and a #1 seed.
