That would be beyond a home run hire for that program if they finish the deal. I don't know what the deal is with Martin at KSU but he will undoubtedly make USCe competitive soon.

I hope he gets it going for real and stays a long long time!

Not a big step up or down in my opinion, but it is a step away from a close neighbor that dominates the state. South Carolina may be surrounded by basketball powers, but it at least has preeminence in its own state. Furthermore, Martin's recruiting base is the east coast, particularly south Florida, so he would be much closer to it. I don't know if he'd take the job or how much $ it would take to coax him to leave KSU, but I can some reasons for such a switch.

Apparently there are a lot of issues between Martin and the AD at KSU.

i think it's funny how he sat on national tv and straight up lied on national tv and then told a story how he sent money to college kids....good hire tho for sc

i do know how coaching deals work. i think he shouldn't have agreed to do the show knowing that the questions would be out there. he clearly did not think about anything that day. he even told on himself for committing NCAA violations

Now that Martin has confirmed he's taking the job, the questions become:

1) who is KSU going to hire? and
2) what will Robert Upshaw do?

Upshaw signed financial aid agreements, not an LOI, so he is free to go anywhere. The Gamecocks really need height--Geathers is a project still, and Haughton will probably need some time before he can really contribute, leaving them with Harris and a couple of 6'8" guys. Martin is known for trying to get long guys in the middle to make opponents miserable in the lane and to try to dominate the boards on both ends, so I'm guessing he's trying to get Upshaw to follow him. Upshaw was looking at K-State, Louisville, Georgetown and west coast schools, so I don't know if he'd want to go to Columbia. SC has only 11 players on scholarship this year (unless there are ineligible transfers), and only one signee so far. It loses one senior, so there is room there for Upshaw.
