  • Don't have a lot of time to post this morning but I wanted to get our team thread started. We are less than a week from Big Blue Madness and I can not wait to see this 2011-2012 squad on the court mixing it up a little. I am also excited to see if we land any recruits during or soon after our Madness. It sounds like we have a lot of high profile kids coming from the 2012 class and perhaps some from 2013 and 2014. Its going to be a tremendous year for CBB this year IMO with some great teams. You have UNC, UK, Ohio State,and UCONN all with a legitimate argument as to why they should be rated #1 and there are a few others that could easily claim the #1 spot by seasons end. Go Big Blue !!

  • Can't wait til BBM -- especially with our football team sucking so bad.

    Poythress will be at BBM, right? I'm hoping he's the next to commit. He'd fit very well next to Harrow and Goodwin.

    I heard that Athlon ranked UK preseason #1 in their bball preview. I wonder if anyone else will be so bold to pick UK over UNC (other than UK fans, of course ... like me!).

  • Yea Colten, Poythress will be at BBM and I also think he could be the next domino to fall for the Cats. I doubt many will pick the Cats over UNC , and rightfully so, but the Cats should be as good as anyone by March. I would love to see the Cats ink an inside presence for 2012 whether it be Cauley, Coleman or Bennett.

    Call me crazy, but I think we'll be better than UNC right off the bat and beat them when we play in December. I like to think of it this way: which team will have the easier time scoring? I think Lamb, Jones, Miller, and a couple of the freshmen will be able to get theirs on UNC. But I think Barnes will have a tough time vs all the attention he'll get from Miller/Gilchrist, and I think their bigs will have trouble vs Davis and Jones down low. Kendall Marshall is more of a set-up man than a scorer (unlike Teague). I think UNC is most dangerous with their outside shooting, but it's tough to go on the road and beat a great team like UK with outside shooting. I just think we match up well with them physically, and our defense will be tougher than theirs. I also think our fastbreak will be pretty much unstoppable with Teague dishing to Davis, Gilchrist, and Jones.

  • I certainly wouldn't call you crazy, actually I quite hope you're right. I still think we have a fair chance at winning that early season match-up with UNC, but mainly because it will be at Rupp. I also think that Barnes will get his points. Gilchrist is going to be a GREAT defender, however, I think he will be a great defender in February and March and not so much early in the season. I realize he was a great defender in high school but it will take some time to transition that to the college level IMO. I love UK's chances this season, I'm just saying that playing on a neutral floor in the early season I probably take UNC and Ohio State over UK at that juncture. Now when it becomes February and March I'll take UK against anyone.

    I also agree that our transition basketball has a chance to be REALLY exciting this season with the overall team speed and length. Let the games begin !!

  • With Cal offering Willis yesterday, does this change his mind about going to BBM? I know he was going to go then said he wasnt. So I wonder if this will make him go again. I know he is still a go for Hoosier Hysteria the following night

  • I don't believe Willis was in attendance. I honestly don't know if he is a priority for the Cats or not, would be a solid pick-up for any team.

    Big Blue Madness was terrific last night. I really love this teams potential even though it was mostly a dunkathon with very little defense. The spped, length and shooting on this team should be the best in the 3 years Cal has been here. If they can bond and learn to execute like last years team than I fully expect at least another FF, of course IF is a big word. Should be a fun ride.

    He's probably just now getting home. . . I'm sure the guys will catch up with him or his dad for a follow up tomorrow or Tuesday maybe. . . All I heard was that he and Amile Jefferson WERE both on campus this weekend. . .

    Thanks a lot. I havent had a good feeling about Harris for awhile now. As long as he doesnt end up at PU I will be ok with it.

    Yea. I havent felt good about him going to IU for awhile now. Like Zach said I wouldn't sleep on Pu though.

    Nothing is official yet. . . he hasn't practiced the last couple of days, and wasn't at Rupp tonight for the exhibition game. . . Doubt he would have played much this year, maybe his Jr. and Sr. year though. . . I'd guess he ends up somewhere back in the state of Florida. . .

  • I know there are some really strong teams in College Basketball this season but I really love the potential of this team come March. I think they need to be stronger on the boards and have work to do on the defensive end but their intensity and overall skill set is very high.

  • Going to be very interesting to see how all of the talent meshes throughout the season. I can't wait to see their speed in-person in 2 weeks at the HOF Tip-Off.
