BT Notes: PSU Transfers Hot Topic

The situation at Penn State dominated talk at Big Ten media days. But we also look at Michigan as a favorite, Nebraska's move to the conference and much more.

  • I found it amusing what Dantonio had to say about Penn State, their players, recruiting them and trying to maintain that competitive edge...whatever happened to his "gentlemen's" agreement in the Big Ten w/recruiting? Didn't he have have an issue w/how Meyer, Fickell and company got Se'von Pittman to switch his commitment....lame

  • huh? You have to reach a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to try to find any fault with Dantonio in this. He said he wouldn't recruit any PSU player - if they initiate contact, he will look into it. That's the same thing almost every other coach said. The only one to bat an eye at is Beckman.

  • On the flip side, its even more lame for Urban Meyer trying to take a "high road"... After immediately going after committed players from more than one school! And Ohh yea, ALL of that stuff that happened near the end of his Florida stint! LOL

and 3 of those player he flipped from PSU!! The problem he really has with it is that he doesn't have enough schollys to poach their roster and can't go over the 85 limit like other schools cuz they're on sanctions lol

That was Bielema, not D'antonio who had the public beef.

  • Urban did not say he had a problem with recruits decomitting. A recruit has no official allegiance until he signs with a team. He has a problem with players who are already members of a team being recruited off the team. Breaking that locker room bond is much different from a verbal pledge who hasnt been a part of any team.

He also said that he feels that the players have a right to play where they want, but that he would not be actively going after any current player unless they contacted OSU first.

Just wanted to clear that up so the excerpt from above isn't taken in a way unintended.

I agree on Beckman but diagree on Dantonio. He sounds like a politician talking out of both sides of his mouth.

"I want to do this with respect to Penn State in any way that I can with integrity," Dantonio said. "But at the same time, we do have a job to do."

  • “A lot of people worry and wonder about whether or not what the NCAA did is a precedent,” Delany said. “I don't really care if it's a precedent. I don't really care about whether or not they had jurisdiction or whether or not there was an underlying NCAA violation. There's been a lot of debate by pundits one way or the other

Perhaps Delany should use his BIG credit card, get a hotel room with Emmert, and kiss each other's ass and celebrate they took the moral high ground. Over champagn and caviar and their thongs they can discuss how they can carve out more power for themselves. Maybe some historically catchy title such as Czar or Chancellor before their names. Two of the biggest pile of Sh_t in college football.

  • More on the Penn State Uniform change

Who, what is behind Penn State uniform makeover?

    By DAVID JONES, The Patriot-News

It seems ridiculously trivial and superficial considering the context to talk about uniforms here. But everything about football is essentially trivial.

The only reason it's topical is that Penn State, eager to makeover its branding in the wake of the Sandusky scandal, is considering everything in play. Incredibly, including its uniforms. New PSU coach Bill O'Brien has begun talking about it as if it's a fait accompli. O'Brien even mentioned a blasphemous possibility: Player names on the back.

Who, what is behind Penn State uniform makeover?

Six years ago in September, I sat in a suite at the north-side Columbus Marriott with ESPN's Chris Fowler and the late Joe Paterno when a man entered whom I'd never met but had heard much about. Phil Knight sauntered in with a pair of his suntanned buddies and took over the room. Highly successful people have a way of doing that, I guess. I had read a lot about the Nike founder and his Asian sweatshops and I was prepared to find easy fault with Knight. But the fact is, I found him hard to dislike. He was engaging and funny and full of crap in a good way. Before long, the talk turned to Penn State's purposely austere uniforms. My 87-year-old mom, who was also in the room, made a theatrical point of telling Paterno that she could never tell who the PSU players were because their names weren't on the back. Big laughs all around, especially from Knight. I told Knight that my major from the local school was graphic design. Which set him off on a whole thread of rhetorical gab about how the Penn State uniforms had to go, didn't they? As Knight's...

I find it amusing that an O$U fan wants to talk about irony in regards to recruiting ethics... and then doesn't even get the right coach who talked about the "gentlemens agreement".
Yes O$U fans, we want Urban Meyer and his moral compass to set the bar for all coaches in the B1G.
You've got nothing on Dantonio and this proves it.
