I was actually going to say that. Nice. His name next to Dantonios makes me want to vomit.

Yeah, he's much more a product of Southern California talent than he is a good coach. After his debacle at Tennessee I'm surprised he hasn't laid an egg at SC. Just goes to show that talent is as big a factor (or bigger) as coaching.twocents

    Yeah, I said it.

  • yeah Kiffin is not a good coach just a hype man .... Im embarrassed for the other coaches that were mention with him.

Nothing to worry about there. That dude still hasn't breezed through the rule book yet. They'll be answering to additional recruiting violations soon enough.

  • Dantonio's best and mediocre days are behind him. Michigan's in the process of blowing right by him and OSU's not going to lose to Michigan State for a long time. Plus, Notre Dame's going to beat him every year moving forward as long as he's there. That's going to put him where's he's most comfortable...right in the 8-5 or 9-4 range and that will never get him to a BCS bowl.

An osu fan defending Michigan? Keep telling yourself that. Kiper is predicting 3 Spartys in the top 25 in next years draft. No end in sight my man. We'll certainly have 8-4 seasons as will everyone including the bucks bit more often than not we're looking at consistent 10 win seasons. Ps you've got to come with something more than ND for gods sake. We'll torch them this year.

Wow! somebody put something in this guys mouth. My zippers stuck.
That kind of ignornance can only come from a scUM fan. I guess us MSU fans should just get ready for Michigan, OSU, and ND to start being as good as us.

I'm not defending Michigan, but they're on a better path than MSU at the moment and they'll probably be the best college team in state of Michigan for the next three or four years which isn't saying much.

Both teams will rely on Ohio high school talent just to stay relevent.

  • By contrast, how many BCS bowls did Coach Tressel have?

    No doubt!!!
Way too good of a coach to be on this list.

He should be OFF this list as a BCS participant after the miracle he performed last year. Taking a team that had ZERO to play for, can't win it's Conf, zero post season play, and he brings them to a top 5 ranking.
    That just doesn't happen.

    Pitzrrr

  • With coaches just trying to get to one, this article puts into perspective how impressive Tressel's 10 year run was; 8 BCS Bowls with 5 wins.

  • Butch Jones at Cincinnati isn't notable but Skip Holtz is? Cincinnati has won the big east 3 out of 4 years including last year with the starting qb being out for the last par of the year, but skip holtz is notable?

  • Oversight on Butch Jones, I'd agree. He's only been there the last 2 years and it's great they tied for the title this past year. They could win the Big East this year. They also have a nice nonconf game against Va. Tech at Landover, Md., as well.

Thanks in general for the comments. I thought this would be a good way to get some discussion going.

I looked at Butch, I really did. I missed that UC tied for that conference title, which should have put him on the list. I was giving Brian Kelly too much of the benefit for what happened at UC.

    SteveHelwagen

  • Lane Kiffen? He hasn't won anything. Why is he a "best coach". Anybody can have a winning record at USC.

    woowoo

  • Kiffin is a joke....until he wins...you cant put him on the list....does nobody remember the debacle at Tennesee and Oakland?? thats embarassing to even think to put him on the list...

  • I see ole front butt weis is on there for making a bcs bowl. It was asked if his two super bowl rings matched tressel's 5 national championship rings. He said 1 was worth tress' 5. Too bad that didn't help him against osu when they ran away with a resounding win.

With enough money and whining, anyone can back into a BCS Bowl (Splenda Bowl) against a pathetic team that Scum barely beat. You guys made yourselves the laughing stock of the country with that bowl game, but you are too ignorant to recognize it.

This, and don't forget that this will be the first year of restricted recruiting. They will be down 10 scholarships the next few years. There's no way they can keep the depth of talent needed to stay at the top with those restrictions. Sure the bowl ban is over, but the real punishment is just beginning. I, for one, will be so happy when he fails...and fail he will.

Oak and Tenn? Did he not improve the teams from their previous year?

    Kiffin coaching...

--USC O-Cord--, coached a couple of the best O's in the history of college football.

--Oakland-- took over for the #1 worst team, worst record, worst owner in sports, a team that quit on Art Shell the year before. The franchise was a disaster. Raider had the #1 pick. Kiffin wanted Calvin Johnson and a QB in the 2nd round. He tried to tell Al Davis that Jamarcus Russell had great talent but but no work ethic. Al Davis overruled Kiffin and took Jamarcus Russell. Thaaaaaaaaanks Al. JR even held out.
With a mess of a team and owner he improved them by 2 games and more importantly the team was starting to come together and didn't quit.
Lane Kiffin did the impossible and started to turn Russell into a serviceable NFL QB before he got fired.
Kiffin left, Russell started to regress, the rest is history.

    --Tennessee--
Kiffin inherited a bad 5-7 team that just lost a home game by scoring only 7 points vs...Wyoming. This team was HORRIBLE!
The team was stale, the team needed fire and passion, and it's exactly what they got. Kiffin had a plan to go in guns blazing. Be loud! Let the recuits take notice! How dare you call out the best teams in the SEC! Gasp! How dare you think you'll be competing for championships over everyone else! It got the recuits attention and it's EXACTLY what he was trying to do. It was working!
The team improved immensely in 1 year, though talent was low (including 2 walk ons starting on the OL) they started competing with and beating some good teams while putting together an elite recuiting class.
Actually hanging with #1 FL, and almost beating #2 Bama.
Ask any Tenn fan what they thought of that season. Ask the senior QB Crompton and his dad what they thought of Kiffin, gushing over him to the media.

    ---USC---
Oh look! Taking over a program left for dead! Fun! Brought in while those crazy sanctions came down. Massive scholarship reductions and no post season his 1st 2 years. Everyone saying that nobody will want to come to SC now! ESPN saying we won't hear from SC in 10 years. The program is on life support.
All he does is come up with a master plan and he continues to bring in elite class after elite class. Bringing a left for dead program to a top 5 ranking as one of footballs hottest teams.
. Building up a team (during serious sanctions) for a real shot at the NC in 2012. Look who's back?!?!
If he built a championship contending team during massive sanctions, what will he build when the santions are over? What kind of teams will he build with his FULL allotment of scholarships?

Like him or not, he's one of the best, hardest working coaches and offensive minds in football and he's not going anywhere.

    Pitzrrr

  • Pitzrrr.....we r talking about building a program a staying consistent....kiffen has not lasted long enough in one place.....most of us already know why......some day your goggles will come off.... i will give him props when i see it.....so far he hasnt had the body of work in college football.....dont take it personal

They might be fine though. I think they took 167 recruits in each of their last two classes.
