Big Ten: 2012 Games To Watch

We look at the 14-week regular season for the key Big Ten games on the schedule, including the Oct. 27 Big Ten title game rematch between Wisconsin and Michigan State.

    SteveHelwagen

  • Just looking at the first weeks schedule I see Michigan State losing to Boise State. At least we won't have to look at that God awful blue turf! And I have to give mad props to Michigan for taking on Alabama when they didn't have to. I think Alabama wins that game. I think Iowa will have their hands full with Northern Illinois. Iowa seems to play down to the level of their competition and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Iowa gets upset. As a Husker fan I'm concerned about Southern Miss. I think my Huskers will prevail but the game just might be a close one.

    IowaHusker79

  • Yep, the names may not seem dangerous, but Big Ten teams have some tests mixed in there.

    SteveHelwagen

  • The MSU v Boise St game is the most intriguing OOC game. Big time test for both programs. UCF ranked 15?? That should be interesting as well. TSUN goes down to Texas and loses a close one to Bama. Is it September yet!?!?!?

    Yeah, I said it.

Sorry, NIU has only 3 returning starters on offense, and with no Chandler Harnish at QB, Iowa by 20.

Do not worry about So. Miss...they too lost a ton of talent from last year, not to mention their coaching staff. 'braska by 24.

If the Boise St/MSU game were held last year, it would be Boise...easy. This it will come down to who fills their holes quicker...and better. Boise is the team you don't want to see on your schedule in Aug&Sept...much kudos to MSU for scheduling them...albeit at home. Pick'em.

As for UM playing a "neutral" site (as if) game with 'Bama...yes kudos for scheduling it. 'Bama by 20. Reality hits hard for that team up north.

Week 12 Illinois/Purdue maybe the one most misjudged.

With OSU out of it, I could see WI and PSU struggling, this could be a meaningful game for one or both of these teams. Both are returning better than rated QB's and they have some talent.

Bet the mortgage money on Boise, but let me know where you live as I like buying up short sales.

  • Central Florida ranked 15th in the nation by Phil Steele...

that scares me a bit ...

  • I dont think Mich will lose to Alabama. Mich has fared pretty well against the SEC, on top of that Alabama has to break in a new QB, its a home game for scUM, and Denard now has much experience.

Even a brand new quarterback for Alabama is usually better than most returning starters for other schools. I still think Bama beats Michigan.

  • Nebraska's brutal schedule will probably keep the Huskers out of the Big Ten Championship Game. I think the Huskers will lose at Ohio State and will lose to either Michigan in Lincoln or Michigan State in East Lansing. Otherwise, I think the Huskers beat the rest of the Big Ten teams they play. But those two conference losses will keep the Huskers out of the title game.

I'll take Michigan State in this game. Both teams will have new QBs, but my bet is that MSU's defense carries them. Will be fun to watch.

Michigan's only hope against Alabama is to beat 'Bama's secondary one on one. You can bet that Denard is going to take alot of hits. The run option has no chance against Alabama. Ask Urban Meyer how that works from his time at Florida.

BTW - Penn State just completed a home at home with Alabama. So props to not just Michigan, but also PSU. AND Alabama.... SEC Big Ten regular season games are very rare these days. But they are alot of fun.

  • I would agree with the comment on Illinois-Purdue. That has potential to mean something in the Leaders race if one of them can knock off Wisconsin. Purdue plays Badgers at home.

I don't think Alabama has a new QB. AJ McCarron will be a Junior. His second year as a starter.

Will be interesting. Michigan needs to take the next step to being Hoke's team vs RichRod's. They'll need to be physical and play defense --two things they haven't done since Carr retired.

Alabama is replacing alot on defense, but my bet is they'll be ready.

    IMO -
Alabama wins this game. In 1-2 years, Michigan will be the better team.

I always root for the B1G against OOC opponents and I do dislike Bama more than scUM but I’m afraid that Bama will be picking off Denard Robinson arm punts all day long. Bama wins this one…

  • Bama / UM game may get ugly. DRob going to have big, fast athletes in his grill all night, and you can bet Nick Saban won't mind extracting a pound of wolvy hide after some of the things that happened in-state during his years at Michigan State.

FWIW, Bama returns their QB and the game is in Dallas, not Ann Arbor. Where did you get your info from?

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Since when did Arlington,Texas become the home to UM? And Alabama is not breaking in a new quarterback, AJ McCarron is still their quarterback.
