Big Ten Basketball: On The Rise

Big Ten basketball got a boost when Indiana's Cody Zeller, OSU's Deshaun Thomas and Michigan's Trey Burke stayed in school. Here's a glance at what 2012-13 may look like.

  • FYI: Billy Oliver does not return for Penn State. He has decided to end his basketball career due to concussion problems. And Matt Glover is transferring, along with Trey Lewis.

    Edit: Bahzinga!

  • Oliver isn't coming back

Edit - got beat by a couple seconds.

  • Penn State has another key newcomer: D.J. Newbill (transfer from So. Miss originally from Philly) who will likely start at the 2-guard next year along with Frazier at the point and Marshall at the 3.

  • Typical dim view of a Wisconsin team from someone who doesn't really know the program very well. No mention of the 2 redshirts PG George Marshall and F Jared Uthoff. When has UW not had a good PG in Ryan's term? 4 returning starters including 3 SRs. As much depth as the team has ever had. Sounds like a team struggling for an NCAA berth to me...

Thanks for the corrections on PSU ... intel on those moves was hard to find.

I readily say Wisconsin will win at least 20 and go to The Dance. You have to admit, though, that playing without a guy who we know can create his own offense is a bit troubling. Right?

    They will be fine.

  • Check with Andrew Dzurita on Lions247 for any and all PSU Basketball info. He's very up to date on everything with the current team and the current recruiting targets, such as Sheldon Jeter who is red hot in the late signing period after getting offers/interest from Wisconsin, Pitt, K-State, South Carolina, Florida State, and Penn State.

  • How can OSU not have a single verbal commit going at this point in the year? Maybe Crean dried up Thad's Indiana connection?

You lead the 2nd paragraph by saying UW will struggle to get to the NCAA's. UW has never finished lower than 4th in the B1G standings since Ryan has been coach.

Jordan Taylor has raved about George Marshall, saying he will make everyone forget about Jordan Taylor, but you didn't know that. Since you didn't see Marshall this year and he isn't in the incoming class but a redshirt you severely discount his value.

Congradulations your just like everybody else who writes these kinds of stories. About 50/50 on knowledge of the teams.

No, no ... getting back to the Sweet 16 may be difficult. That's what I was saying (and I will change it to say that).

I think they are an NCAA lock. I'd need my head examined to think otherwise, obviously. But Sweet 16 without a stud like Taylor ... I'll need to see it. Agreed, let's see what Marshall can do.

I mean, in your heart, were they a Sweet 16 team this year if Taylor hadn't been there? No way.

They only had 1 scholarship before Sully left. They were shooting for the very best they could get. Unless they get Tony Parker, they may strike out.

I spent about 5 hours researching information and stats for this story and probably 3-4 hours writing it.

I don't know anybody else who has attempted something this voluminous on Big Ten basketball. By its very nature, it is hard to track every coming and going.

I actually feel very good that if all I missed was 1 guy quitting PSU with a concussion, another guy at PSU transferring, a guy transferring to PSU from Southern Miss and a guy who redshirted at Wisconsin (ha ha).

That means I must have gotten the other 90 or so guys I mentioned right (LOL).

But you're right, I ought to shoot for 100 percent accuracy. I will try and do better next time.

  • Tough Crowd!

Great work steve! Very detailed and informative! Should be an exciting year of bball upcoming for the B1G

    Scratch Uthoff.... peace

  • Exactly herkulees! No Uthoff. Wisconsin will not finish in the top 4 of the conference this year. Marshal may be good but he has ZERO experience. Wisky is certainly due for a letdown year. I thought the article was pretty accurate and leave it too a Badger fan to throw a Hissy fit because someone didn't rave about their redshirt freshmen who have yet to play a single minute. Good work Steve!
