Big Ten Recruiting: Flip The Switch

  • Bucknut 24 it is obvious you haven't been around for awhile. Michigan has always recruited well in Ohio going back to the days of Bo vs Woody. Michigan also seems to get the best in terms of players (2 Heisman winners) and people with class. Urban will fit in well at Ohio (win at no cost). You have owned Michgan the past 10 years by using a cheat and a liar for a coach. You have taken a step up by getting your own version of a snake oil salesman. The only question is how long before he quits this time??
Funny thing though, with all the winning you have had lately over Michigan, your still 14 years away from just breaking even. Doesn't say much about your program after all!!

    OhioBlue1

  • Another Bucknut who doesn't have a clue. Check your history; a rookie Michigan coach (Bo) beat Woody in his first year when Ohio was predicted to win the national championship. You have owned Michigan the last 10 years because of a coach who cheated and lied. Yes, the playing field is (hopefully) now level. Michigan will continue to get prime talent in Ohio because a Michigan degree is worth more than a degree from Ohio. Oh, that's right, who cares about a degree.

  • The only way that Hoke could stick his chest out is to use a girdle and hope that some of the fat goes North.
At least he didn't embarrass the school with a 12 man recruiting class that wouldn't be the envy of a Sun-Belt conference team and then whine and bemoan things that "he didn't want" in the conference and run to daddy Alvarez to make it right.

Also, with 4 year scholarships, you aren't going to see many 25 man recruiting classes going forward. If scholarships get reduced to 80 overall, parity's going to be more common.

Recruiting is a dirty game, but it's the way the world is. I'm not going to whine about Pittman. I will say that if tOSU takes off, it's more Michigan's problem than MSU's for 2 reasons.

    1) MSU wasn't pulling the top OH talent when JT was around, so it's not like Meyer "locking up the state" is going to really affect MSU's talent. Michigan, on the other hand, is counting on some of those guys. Go get'em!

    2) MSU and tOSU aren't protected rivals, so they meet, what, twice every 6 years or something like that? UM has to play tOSU every year; I have no problem with our mutual rival taking a yearly beating at the hands of Meyer; helps MSU's shot at going to the CCG. Whether or not MSU can beat tOSU in the CCG is kind of immaterial right now; State's still building its program, so any type of success is good.

    So go do work Meyer!

Great perspective. I'm sure we'll see each other in the CCG many times over in the next few years.

  • The Big Ten sounds like a bunch of whiners.

If your school was "all that" then the boys wouldn't have given the Buckeyes a second look.

I MUST go a little Bucknuts every day.

One more thought: You look at the bottom five classes in the Big Ten with Minnesota, Indiana, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Illinois.

They are at the bottom of the rankings for all of the 64 or so BCS schools and even below some non-BCS schools like Houston and Arkansas State. That can't happen.

Wisky signed 12 kids. No doubt that's why they're that low-ranked. Also, Northwestern's class should include Kyle Prater, 5-star WR from '11 who transferred from USC.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I'm honestly disappointed in Nebraska. I thought they'd come in and at least play Big 10 defense. Ironically enough, the only time they played up to that level was against MSU lol cry. Not sold on Martinez (or Pelini as an in-game coach) and I think they're looking at 2013 as the earliest time when they can field a full compliment of Big 10 LBs.

Going forward, it's pretty clear that Ohio State will own the Leaders division. I expect a run similar to the one you guys had with JT; multiple years in a row either winning the division outright or tied for the lead. I'd expect tOSU to be in the CCG at least 7/10 years. If you look at it, the bottom 3 teams in the division, IL, PU, IU, are never going to be a legit threat. A fully functioning PSU has shown it can hang with tOSU . . . but they won't be fully functioning for several years, and probably not till the coach after O'Brien comes in.

That leaves Wisconsin to challenge you guys, and up until 2 months ago, I'd say they'd be a thorn in your side. Now they're replacing half their staff and I think BB is one of the worst in-game coaches in the conference. Cryst deserved the Pitt job, he's a hell of an OC and it'll be hard for Bucky to replace him (plus, no Russell Wilson and they lost to tOSU @the Shoe vs. the worst tOSU team in the past 10 years). Really, the only years tOSU has to worry about Wisconsin is when tOSU has to go to Madison.

If you look at the Legends division . . . . looks like a blood-bath going forward. The MSU - UM games should be pretty darn good going forward, with Nebraska nipping at their heels. Iowa usually has an "Up" team every 3-4 years and Northwestern is going to be well-coached as long as Fitz in there. Even Minnesota could be dangerous under Kill (Really like Marquise Gray).

Final thought: Given the competition in the Legends division and the fact that UM is going to be playing tOSU on the last game of the year every year . . . . there's a great chance that tOSU prevents UM from playing in the CCG. Say UM goes into that game 6-1, while MSU is at 5-2 with a W over UM. tOSU beats UM, MSU beats Northwestern, Spartans are in the CCG (assuming Nebraska isn't a factor).

What I'm saying is that UM has a much greater chance of going into "the Game" with a Big 10 loss or 2 than tOSU does. That should ensure a variety of Legends competitors in the CCG.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

That's because no one wants to recruits crappy michigan HS players who are by national standards, are both terrible and dumb. There is an exception once in a while and he usually chooses tOSU. The only question about which coach will be around the longest is if the Joke chokes on a pork chop, is it true his family members have actually tried to eat each other? you are right, we are 14 down, because before it became important to us to kick your asses, we spotted you 14 games in the beginning, so since then, we're even, stupid.

While Michigan can't boast the talent pool Ohio can...we did get our NC winning qb from there.

  • Commitment, Bielema, are you serious? What about your 6 coaches that left. Your leaders are sending a fine example of staying true to your word. Meyer is into Bielema's head so bad now, wait until game day, back to the old OSU / Wis. series where OSU wins 9 out of 10.

I think TTUN started stealing recruits before Coach Meyer did. He convinced Kalis to switch and had his tusks in Dunn before Meyer snatched from his grip. Everybody is quick to point out all the recruits we convinced to switch, but everybody gives TTUN a free pass.

Thats because it was against OSU and not Wisky or MSU. OSU just moved on to the next guy and didn't cry over spilled milk.

Cry me a river Dantonio and Bielama. This gentleman's agreement is over. New regime has come to town. Do your job and recruit until they sign. They're not yours until they sign on the dotted line.

And it's not going to be the Big 2 little 9. It's going to be the Big 1 and little 10. Look what Urban did in two months. The only reason TTUN had a top 10 class is because of osu's instability and they landed some Ohio talent. The Ohio fence is up and majority of the best will be wearing scarlet and grey.

yep and we weren't the only ones who stole recruits from other programs either.

Purdue stole away a recruit and so did SCUM.

Bulemia is just upset because his dumb ass couldn't do it too.

As for Hoax; that idiot looks like Fred Flintstone getting a Colonoscopy in that foto. Can you blame a kid for choosing Meyer over him?

Urban's a good looking guy with a good looking family; he has hardware coming out of his wazzoo and so does the school that he's coaching at.

Hoax just looks and sounds like a fat mentally handicapped individual.

    davebucknut

  • I so agree. These kids wouldn't have went to the other schools, if there wasn't so much instability at tOSU. Get over it. Next year tOSU won't have to call your soft verbal commits.

What whiners! I live in Michigan and Drew Sharps aticle in The Free Press is comical. How can it be "stealing" recruits who are from Ohio and want to be Buckeyes? Meyer has backed off of Kalis and Diamond. And Michigan "stole" one from Cincinnati at the last minute, but that was all right because they are "Michigan". Wasn't Dantonio talking to Adolphus until the end? It's a new era in the Big 10. Good luck to Michigan without Ohio's best!!!

Get your facts straight. Norfleet stated he has been waiting 4 years for Michigan to offer. As far as your "Good luck to Michigan without Ohio's best!!!" You don't have a clue. Michigan ALWAYS has recruited well in Ohio. Were do you think Anthony Carter & Charles Woodson (Heisman winners) were from??? Now Michigan has a coach who is from Ohio and you say, Good Luck?? You need to have your "5 star Participant" label suspended, it's embarassing.
