We have excerpts from Thursday's Big Ten-themed Chat session led by senior writer Steve Helwagen.

  • It's a stretch to claim the Big 10 is the best conference based on teams 1-8. If the #1 Big 10 played the #1 SEC and #2 Big 10 played #2 SEC and so on, the SEC might win all of those games or at least 6 or 7 of them. We'll see Saturday night.

  • Turf, the SEC would win the first 2, maybe 3. But would lose the rest. They have a tough top 2-3 but after that IMO they are overrated.

Yeah, that was kind of my point. Yes, they have a great 3-4 at the top. South Carolina showed me not too much Thursday night. They're supposed to be top 10, now Vandy played a pretty good game and really deserved a chance to steal it but the officials missed an obvious pass inf call.

  • Going from 6-7 to undefeated is a very real possibility. I would have to argue that although the Buckeyes went 3-5 in the conference but never lost by more than a touchdown. A loss is a loss for sure, but we can agree that the offense they fielded last year was horrible and the defense was just average. I think lack of motivation and uncertainty of who would be coaching this year led to the slide at the end of 2011. So with a year under the belt for Miller and the scheme to compliment his skill set along with the front seven talent on defense it is reasonable to think that the improvements made this year will push OSU over the top in B1G completion this year. Toughest test are UW and MSU away, followed by TSUN only because OSU is at home. None of those teams are significantly better than last year IMHO and no reason to think that the Buckeyes don't get a push on those based on what I've already mentioned.

So if the SEC were to go 2-0 or 3-0 against the Big 10 at the top, you really think the SEC would go 0-6 or 0-5 in the remaining games against the Big 10? I don't think so.
