* Arkansas - Sources tell us that The Hogs have been turned down by James Franklin, Gary Patterson, Les Miles, Chris Petersen and it's not looking good on Mike Gundy either. Patterson, Petersen or Gundy could reconsider, but as of now, it looks like Art Briles is next in line.
* AuburnUndercover reports Auburn has interviewed Gus Malzahn and will interview Kirby Smart and Chad Morris. A decision is expected Wednesday.
* Tennessee met with Mike Gundy yesterday and it expected to talk with Bo Pelini and Butch Jones. Charlie Strong and Larry Fedora remain in the mix.
* FSU coach Jimbo Fisher is expected to remain with the Seminoles.

This does not add up to me, when you look at the list Arkansas is or has gone after, then we get a list of two coordinators and a Division II head coach receiving interviews.... Hope something is up and is being kept quiet, just does not seem we are shooting very high.

While Arkie and UT go after proven head coaches, why are we going after assistants or a head coach with one years experience? Are we not going after any big names?

It seems like the public names we are hearing for Auburn don't carry the same home run level as the names for Ark and Tn. Is it they are reaching for the stars and wont get them or is it we are just being very quiet about the process out of respect for the coaches?

Arkansas never offered Franklin. He also said that himself.
I don't think a formal offer was ever on the table to Patterson either. The Miles fiasco was done by Jerry Jones. He got his buddy a raise and extension.

A hire like that would split the fanbase. He burned his bridges when he left the first time. Now he coaches at Arkansas State, a school who always talks shit to the Hogs for no reason. They're like the ugly stepchild of the state. They've placed billboards all over the state proclaiming to be the state school, etc. I hate them. Malzahn will never coach at Arkansas.

Because assistants can make great head coaches?
I don't think Oregon or Florida is regretting their decision to hire someone with no head coaching experience. Stoops took over at OSU without being a head coach too and there are many other examples. This panic about getting a coach with no HC experience is overblown to me.

Do you really think Art Briles has any interest in this job? I don't think Arkansas will get a top coach, at least from the south. GREAT fan base but tough recruiting in Arkansas since the state isn't big enough. Briles makes sense and so does Patterson but I think both are happy and well paid where they are. Both have Texas recruiting. Gundy does as well but if he goes it appears he will go to Tennessee. Arkansas job is a lot easier with strong recruiting in Texas.

They are also better than you are right now and you are running out of options. It's just not a desirable job, so you might want to come to grips with that.

Gene Chizik is an example of a hire with little experience. Auburn needs a veteran head coach who has several years of winning under his belt. We should NOT hire Kirby Smart, Chad Morris, or Guz Malzahn. We need to hire one of the three P's Patterson, Petrino, Or Peterson, preferably Patterson.

Patterson wont go to Auburn. Frankly, there is only one school that will take Patterson out of TCU and that is Texas. Mack is gearing up for his last year and the Texas job should open up next year. I have heard Patterson is at the top of the list. I also heard Arkansas just hired a coach and I heard it was Petersen. Any school that cares about their integrity would not hire Petrino, but that is my opinion.
