Nick Saban

  • He would be 2nd fiddle to the man our stadium is named after. Darrell K Royal. I would love to have Saban but I just don't see him leaving Bama with the total control he has and the money he makes.

  • He would have the control at Texas he has at Alabama and I doubt he would like that. Somebody already addressed the money issue and they were right. Sure Texas could pay more but they won't and can't justify paying the amount that would take. Talking about 20 million plus. The next thing is if a bidding war like that came about you have the problem of your shook having to pay more because that's simply going to bump everyone's salary. According to people I talked too Tampa bay offered 8 last year and Texas contacted his agent I don't know if an offer was made but both were told thanks but no thanks.

  • If this is a financial/stability decision, then yes Texas offers nothing Alabama can't match.

From an ego/legacy perspective, having a shot at being the guy that gets credit for turning around Alabama AND Texas is worth much more than any amount of money can buy.

It will all depend on what is more important to him and if he feels like taking on another challenge at 61. And not a single person outside of the Saban household really knows what is going on in his head.

Turning around another top tier program, one with almost unlimited assets, doesn't do anything to help his legacy. If he were looking to build a program to boost his legacy, he would need to do it at a smaller school with little history of winning or a school that has never won a NC.

At this point, he would be better off staying at UA and trying to win as many NC's as possible IMO. He has a good win % but also needs to add more W's to total victories. He is also in his 60's so spending time rebuilding a program to that level doesn't make sense.

Texas could win a bidding war...but would they? Bama's athletic department would still be profitable if they paid him 15m/year, and more. Would Texas pay 16m/year? I'm just saying...with boosters money + athletic profits, Bama could easily pay 30m or more. Texas could probably pay him 50m or more. So the logical question is who is willing to pay more, not who can afford more, because neither is going to pay anywhere close to enough that the other team couldn't come up with the cash.

This makes the most sense of anything I've seen on this thread. This isn't a question of financial ability. I believe that Texas is the top revenue school by far in the country so they have the funds. But do they have the will to get into a bidding war? I think the question of will comes to Alabama, where they're willing to do any and everything necessary to keep a good thing going.

  • He obviously won't leave for money. He's got a great contract at bama. If Texas or USC came calling, he'd have to listen. IMO the only way he doesn't retire at bama is if he wants to give the pros another go. It would have to be a premier destination, though. He won't attempt another complete rebuild.

  • I don't think it's about money with Saban. Obviously it would take some scratch but if he moved or had any desire to move it would be because something else is motivating him.

I still think the most likely scenario is him remaining with the Tide but I wouldn't be a shocked with a guy that has his type of personality moving to a Texas (only place in college I'd see him entertaining) or the NFL. For arguments sake if he moved to Texas and won a national championship there can anyone else name a coach in the history of college football who has won a national championship at 3 schools?

    maninblack1

  • It'd take somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-12 million a year to get Saban out of Alabama, and while that's couch change for us, I can't see Deloss forking over that kind of scratch, and frankly he shouldn't.

If and granted it's a big if Saban said he'd come to Texas for 10M than Deloss should do that. Saban would give Texas more conference championships in 5 years than Mack Brown has in 15.

  • consistently the stupidest conversation on cfb message boards. texas isn't going to ask, and saban isn't going to say yes if we do. you people who keep entertaining either side of that argument, are complete and utter fools.

Slim to no chance he jumps to the NFL. A question has been posted to us by sources about a potential opening at Texas. What if the Horns offer $7 million a year?

If it comes down to money, and it almost always does in the end, Texas could outbid UAT easily. And big 'ol Texas could almost hold all of he little man's ego.

I hope this is a troll, because a meddling bozo like Jerry Jones is the last person I could see Saban working for. Saban doesnt even let his players and assistant coaches talk to the media for the most part. I could just picture his reaction when the media comes to him for a reaction over Jerry Jones stupid statements. His head would probably explode

If you don't think BAma has the boosters to match what Texas can throw at him you must live in a fantasy world.

  • The only reason he would do it is a fresh challenge and to build his legacy by winning a title at 3 schools. Texas offers some built-in recruiting advantages but obviously he's having no issues at Bama in that regard.

You're missing the point. The highest paid coaches in college football are in the $5-7M range right now. Are they going to more than double that to $15? Alabama could match that. Yes, Texas has more money, but the point is that they aren't going to double what the highest paid coach in the country makes. The bidding war would have a limit, and Alabama could match anything up to and a decent amount beyond whatever that limit would be.
