Southern Miss athletic director Jeff Hammond said no decision will be made regarding the future of USM football coach Ellis Johnson until after Saturday’s season finale at Memphis.

Hammond said he continues a “running assessment” of the football program, a process that included a 90-minute meeting Monday with Johnson.
“It’s been an emotional season, but in my view, you can’t lose dignity and respect for each other,” Hammond said. “Whatever happens, we are going to continue to conduct ourselves with dignity and respect.”
Johnson signed a four-year contract in August that will pay him a minimum of about $750,000 annually. According to the terms of the contract, Johnson would receive $700,000 for each year remaining on his contract if he were to be relieved of his duties.
