Should ACC add UConn or Louisville?

  • The ACC has a spot free now that Maryland's leaving for the Big Ten. They'll almost certainly pull once again from the Big East, but which school to take? UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, and USF seem to be the most likely, in that order, but comparing success as the most critical sport -- football -- leaves Louisville and Cincy well above the others. Which would you take?

The ACC should add Louisville, not UConn, now that Maryland has left - SBNation.com

  • Not sure it is going to matter long term. ACC might get gutted in the next 24 months regardless.

Short term since they have to do something I think UConn fits the mold better and I think Louisville is hoping for the B12 offer.

Neither conference looks completely safe though as the PAC12 will be looking to expand East (see B12) and the BIG and SEC are poaching the ACC.

I would not be surprised to see the Oklahoma schools rumored to the PAC12 in the very near term.

  • Louisville and it's not even close IMHO.

  • WVU is lobbying the Big 12 hard right now to add Louisville.

  • They need to be the first to 16 to survie, IMO. Go north and south.

NORTH: Syracuse, Boston College, UConn, Pitt, Virginia, Va. Tech, Louisville & West Va. (or Cincinnati if WVU won't leave Big 12)

SOUTH: FSU, Miami, Ga. Tech, Clemson, UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest

With the deal with Notre Dame, the ACC should be very profitable.

I think the road to 16 teams is happening faster than the PAC 12 wants, but there is no secret the ultimate plan in their commissioner's mind has been to have the original PAC 8 on one side and 8 other teams on the other:

Pacific: Oregon, Oregon St., Wa., Wa. St., Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC

West: Arizona, Arizona St., Utah, Colorado, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St.

That would make them a ratings powerhouse.

  • They need to add Kentucky. UK is a basketball school. And they would be more competitive in football than they are in the SEC. JMO
