  • Sources tell us they expect Tennessee to make a run at Jon Gruden and gauge Bob Stoops' interest in the job.

Others expected to garner consideration are Larry Fedora, Al Golden and Mike Gundy...

  • UT is a good job but the Stoops talk is silly. I think Golden would be a decent hire.

  • It would seem to me that Tennessee would have a problem with money in this coaching hire. I mean, they will have to pay Dooley and his crew, I am pretty sure that they have some kind of debt right now, and I know that they have some newer NCAA sanctions.

I am not sure on all of this, but I have a hard time seeing Tenn being able to pay around the 6 mil he wants and the 4-5 million he wants to hire his assistants. That coaching staff would have a salary that isn't too far off most NFL coaching staffs.

I know that Arkansas could probably make this happen a little more easily than Tenn, but I doubt it happens. I do not think he ever coaches anywhere in the college game.

Last, Gruden is not worth that much money, IMO. I believe that he is worth a pretty penny, but that type of money should be reserved for only proven, great coaches. Yes, Gruden had great success in the NFL and won a Super Bowl. However he has done NOTHING at the college level. I figure he would be a good coach, but there is no way he has earned that type of money, so I honestly hope we(Arkansas) do not give it him.

Money won't be issue (given $18m yesterday by Chancellor). I agree $6m is high and rumor of staff demands is high. BUT the same was said about Saban. If u watched the 60 min. piece it was interesting.
When one thinks about upcoming TV contracts, new playoff system 2014 (or 2015), huge drop in attendance at UTK, 2 Super Bowl Rings may "trump" Sabans NC rings, JG's attraction to recruits, the staff he cud bring in and make him look good, then it's not all that crazy. Essentially we're talking $.5m to $1.0m more than Saban for a program that needs to make a VERY IMPORTANT investment NOW before Tennessee becomes even more irrelevant in the BCS, SEC environment.
As some say above there are some big name VERY QUALIFIED Coaches out there who are proven.
But you can bet if Gruden is really interested in coming back to Knoxville where his wife use to cheer and he was a GA, Dave Hart WILL put the $$$ on the table as much about ROI on investment and take a chance on Gruden's ability to Coach in college.
Interestingly Gruden has yet to at least say "thanks but no thanks". Maybe he's waiting until after Thanksgiving
so he and his wife can spend time with family in Dandrige, Tn. before he says No.

You got a better chance of AL Queda going to Lincoln than you do AL Golden.

  • I am sorry, but Bob Stoops made a legacy at OU and will not leave for Tennessee. I hope I am wrong because he has been a thorn in our side for the past 10 years. We will be more than happy, if you guys can get him out of OU, but it will not happen.

I agree. Stoops isn't going to Tenn... That's insanity.

  • The word with my Tennessee contact is that the Gruden deal is done. It will be announced before the Kentucky game.

I call BS on every bit of this...top to bottom...even if he where hired Gruden plus staff and Hart would be ONLY folks to know...either you are trolling, being lied too, or you know one of the aforementioned above that would be dumb enough to talk...

Yeah... I don't think so.... I seriously doubt an announcement will be made until Dec.
