Alex Collins commitment breakdown

Alex Collins Player Profile

The nation's top running back prospect, Alex Collins (South Plantation, Fla.), committed to Arkansas over Miami on Monday night. Here's a breakdown of what the Razorbacks are getting and what this means.

Scouting Report from Gerry Hamilton

“Collins is the top ranked running back in the 2013 class. He’s as explosive as any back in the class, and runs with a violence not often seen. He has terrific feet, and foot quickness, with the ability to jump cut, skip cut and turn on a dime with excellent change of direction ability. He also has stop/start ability and possesses several gears he can call upon. As a senior, up 26 pounds to 204 from 178 as a junior, he showed the ability to see the hole, burst to the second level and accelerate away from fast South Florida defenders. Collins also displayed the ability to make something out of nothing, bouncing runs to the outside and making multiple defenders miss in space. Collins’ array of moves features quick feet with subtle hesitation followed by burst, and a compact and quick spin-move. He also has the feel for when to sink the hips, drop the pads and run with compact power with the leg drive to finish tough inside runs. Entering the college ranks, patience, at times, is an area Collins can continue to improve upon.”

Commitment Impact from JC Shurburtt

This is a tremendous pick-up for Arkansas and first-year head coach Bret Bielema. Arkansas is in need of impact players at the running back position and it doesn’t get much better than the nation’s top overall prospect at his position, Collins. Credit Razorbacks assistant Charlie Partridge and Bielema with building a great relationship with Collins starting with their time at Wisconsin and then selling the opportunity in Fayetteville. Those that questioned if Bielema and his staff could win recruiting battles in the Southeastern Conference should take notice of their ability to win this situation and land a player that could make an impact next season for the Hogs.
