The skinny: Tyquan Lewis

Four-star defensive end Tyquan Lewis (Tarboro, N.C.) is one of the top prospects in the Tar Heel State this recruiting cycle and one of the best defensive end prospects in the country. At 4 p.m. today, he makes his college decision public.

The 6-foot-4, 227-pound Lewis is expected to select Ohio State over LSU and North Carolina.

Should this happen, it would be the second defensive lineman from the Carolinas that the Buckeyes have landed in the 2013 class. Four-star defensive tackle Michael Hill (Pendleton, S.C.) committed to Ohio State on June 27.

It would also mark the second straight recruiting cycle that Urban Meyer and staff landed a player from the Tar Heel State. North Carolina proved to be fertile recruiting grounds for Meyer and company at Florida (Will Muschamp and his staff are currently reaping the benefits of that) and Ohio State is going to be active in the state moving forward. That's good for attracting quality defensive linemen as North Carolina annually produces several top prospects at that spot.

Rankings and Ratings

Lewis is ranked as the nation’s No. 11 weakside defensive end prospect and No. 10 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina by 247Sports. According to the 247Composite, which equally weighs recruiting rankings and ratings from multiple media outlets that cover recruiting, Lewis is the No. 15 weakside defensive end and is No. 12 in North Carolina. 247Sports rates Lewis with an overall grade of 90, which equates to four stars while his composite rating is .08786, which equates to a high three-star rating.

Scouting Report

Though his four-star rating places him among the country’s best prospects at his position, Lewis may be slightly undervalued across the board. He’s a big, active, versatile defensive lineman that could conceivably line up at three different positions (end, linebacker, tackle), depending on the look. In person, he was good in drills both at The Opening in pads and at the Charlotte NFTC, displaying a quick first step and good hand quickness/violence.

It’s pretty obvious that Ohio State has been the frontrunner here for some time. Lewis is enamored by playing for Meyer and the Buckeyes’ head coach and recruiter Everett Withers have done an excellent job selling Lewis and his family on the program and university. North Carolina and LSU also were factors, but this one has seemingly been wrapped up for OSU for more than a month now. Just as it was with Nadir Barnwell and Rutgers earlier this week, it would be a stunner to see Lewis pick anyone else besides the Buckeyes this afternoon. THE PICK- Ohio State 90 percent
