Tunsil and Ole Miss

Earlier today, news broke on Rebels247 that Ole Miss has moved to the top of the pecking order for the nation’s top-ranked offensive line prospect and No. 3 overall prospect, tackle Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia).

Laremy Tunsil to Ole Miss

It was a dramatic turn of events in the recruitment of the five-star rated prospect, who has had Georgia and Alabama at the top of his list for months.

Tunsil took an official visit to Ole Miss last weekend and enjoyed his visit, telling Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports that the Rebels were up there with the rest.

That being said, sources familiar with his recruitment still said that Georgia was the leader for his services.

Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze had his in-home visit with Tunsil on Thursday and that visit went well enough to turn the tide in favor of the Rebels.

In the above video, I break down this development with Lisa Cornwell of SECPresssPass.com.

Expect ascension

Ole Miss currently sits at No. 12 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings for the Class of 2013. Should the Rebels close, as expected, with the nation’s top prospect Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s No. 2 prospect Chris Jones (currently committed to Mississippi State), five-star safety Tony Conner, four-star offensive tackle Austin Golson, four-star running back Jordan Wilkins and perhaps a surprise or two, the class is a lock for the top 10, likely in the top five and it’s possible that it finishes No. 1 overall.

It would be unprecedented for one program to sign the nation’s top three high school prospects, but that’s exactly what the Rebels would do if they land Nkemdiche, Jones and Tunsil. To top it off, Ole Miss already has signed the nation’s top junior college prospect in defensive tackle Lavon Hooks.
