Russell leads USA Blue

The USA Red was the favorite going into the championship game of the adidas Nations, but a strong team effort led by D'Angelo Russell produced an 81-77 upset for USA Blue.

Russell played a strong overall game for USA Blue.

Russell, an Ohio State commitment, stabilized the game early on for the Blue with his steady playmaking in the backcourt. The combo guard put up 11 points but more importantly tied for the team high with eight rebounds and dished out four assists.

With his aggressive slashing to the basket, North Carolina commitment Theo Pinson led the Blue in scoring with 15 points. He also had seven rebounds and made a critical 7-8 free throws.

The Blue big men Reid Travis and Trey Lyles also hit double figures with 14 points and 10 points respectively. Travis hit a couple timely three-pointers while Lyles also matched Russell with eight rebounds.

Also contributing heavily to the win were Maryland recruit Melo Trimble and California recruit Ahmaad Rorie, who both played solid games in the backcourt.

Myles Turner, who had six points and four rebounds, impacted the game with his shot blocking.

For the Red squad, Stanley Johnson was the top producer with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Jahlil Okafor, Kevon Looney and Trevon Bluiett joined him with double digit scoring games while Okafor also grabbed eight rebounds.
