Dontre Wilson (early junior highlights)
Ohio State landed four-star running back Dontre Wilson (Desoto, Texas) on Monday night, adding another speedy playmaker to the nation's No. 2 class. Wilson previously was committed to Oregon.
Here's our breakdown of the pledge.
Scouting Report from Gerry Hamilton
"Wilson is an electric playmaker with the ball in his hands. Whether it be at running back, out of the backfield as a receiver or in the return game, he has the ability to make game and momentum changing plays. While he has posted some impressive track times, he has football speed. Most of the time, he is the faster player on the field with the ball in his hands. His initial quickness and burst impresses, as does his ability to accelerate past would be tacklers. In any setting, the Under Armour All-America selection has shown the ability to race past linebacker and safeties and make tracking the ball in the air look easy. While Wilson can certainly play some at running back in a spread scheme, he will likely see the majority of his time on the next level in the slot or at receiver and in the return game with the ability to be to be a game changer in a number of different ways."
Commitment Impact from JC Shurburtt
It seems that Urban Meyer is committed to recruiting the fastest team in the country at Ohio State, just as he was at Florida and landing Wilson, who is one of the country’s top speed backs, is huge. This flip from Oregon has been in the making for more than a month and was made official with Wilson’s announcement tonight. Wilson’s versatility, along with the Buckeyes’ scheme, which showcases players with his skill set, means he’s a huge impact recruit. It looks like Meyer and company are trying to be the Ducks on offense and LSU on defense. That’s quite the successful formula.
