Elite 2014 WR enjoys A-Day

It’s happened quickly but all of the sudden, one of the most highly recruited sophomore receivers in the southeast has popped up in middle Tennessee. Josh Malone out of Gallatin (Tenn.) Station Camp High School has added a few more offers and is gaining traction as a national prospect.

Recently Malone was on campus at Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky and earned offers from both. The latest two added to a list that already includes Tennessee, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Only in the class of 2014, more offers are sure to follow as the spring evaluation period gets under way.

One offer that he’d like to be added to his list is one from the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide. This weekend Malone took in Alabama for it’s A-Day Game and festivities.

“This past Saturday I went down to Alabama A-Day and talked to Coach (Lance) Thompson,” Malone said on Monday. “He told me that he liked the way I played and told me he wanted me to stay humble and to come back down this summer.

“I was just excited to be down there and see all the fans and all the tradition. I really like what they’re doing down there. I’m pretty high on the school because of all the tradition and the way they run things at Alabama is good.”

Malone was also invited to attend the spring game at Tennessee. He hopes to attend and he plans to visit Knoxville during the summer as well. With all of the new interest, Malone is just soaking it in.

“It’s just exciting,” he said. “I’m just happy to be in the process and at least I know I’ll have a chance to go D-1 and that’s always been a dream.”

In addition to his offers, Malone has fielded interest from schools such as Baylor, Arizona State, Cincinnati and Stanford. He hasn’t had the time to talk to those coaches though due to a busy track schedule.

At 6-2, 185 pounds, Malone has touched 11.0 in the 100 and high jumps 6-2 while also running a 42 in the 300 meter hurdles. With that kind of athleticism, the interest isn’t about to slow down.
