Five who could flip

With the annual January rush to the finish of the 2013 recruiting cycle just days away and the majority of coaching changes and key assistant hires in the rearview mirror, it's time to look at five committed prospects that could flip to other programs before the Feb. 6 national signing day.

Five-star defensive end Carl Lawson could end up at a number of schools, even though he currently remains committed to Auburn.

Carl Lawson, WDE, Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton

Prospect ranking- No. 27 ranked prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 98. He also has a 247Composite rating of .9864, which makes him a five-star prospect according to the recruiting industry.

The five-star defensive end with an electric first step remains committed to Auburn, but is in the process of setting up official visit for January, which will come from a list of Tennessee, North Carolina, USC, Ole Miss and Clemson. The 6-foot-2.5, 245-pound Lawson doesn't have the ideal relationship with newly-hired Auburn defensive line coach Randy Garner, which means the Tigers have an uphill battle. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has already used his one face-to-face (in-home) visit with the Under Armour All-America.

A'Shawn Robinson, OL/DL, Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights

Prospect Ranking - No. 29 ranked prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 97. He has a 247Composite rating of .9833, making him a five-star prospect according to the industry.

While the 6-foot-4.5, 302-pound uber-athletic Robinson remains committed to Texas, and solidly publicly when asked, there is certainly considerable smoke in this recruitment. Robinson has already officially visited Florida State and USC with the Trojans being the major threat to the Longhorns. Friday, reported the U.S. Army All-American will officially visit Alabama Jan. 18 and Texas Jan. 25 before announcing a final decision.

Jalen Ramsey, CB/S, Brentwood (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy

Prospect Ranking - No. 32 in the class with a 97 rating.

The USC commitment has already made official visits to Florida Sep. 21, Mississippi State Nov. 30 and Washington Dec. 7 with USC scheduled for Jan. 18. The 6-foot-0.5, 189-pound versatile defensive back prospect will also likely take a fifth official visit to Tennessee, Florida State or Alabama. Analysts remain split on whether the U.S. Army All-American will flip at the end of the day, but the threat certainly remains when talking to people close to Ramsey's recruitment.

Dee Liner, DT, Muscle Shoals (Ala.)

Prospect Ranking - No. 49 in the 2013 class with a 95 rating. He also has a 247Composite rating of .9882, making him a five-star prospect according to the industry.

Of all of the prospects that are considered the biggest threats to switch, no one moves the needle like the 6-foot-2.5, 270-pound Liner. The reason is simple, Liner is an Auburn commitment and has been since June of 2011 with defending national champion Alabama receiving plenty of mention behind the scenes by those in Muscle Shoals and around the state. An official visit to Miami is on the books for Jan.18 for the Under Armour All-America, but Alabama is the main threat - should the Crimson Tide make a strong push.

Dontre Wilson, APB, DeSoto (Texas)

Prospect Ranking - No. 107 in the class with a 94 rating. He has a 247Composite rating of .9595.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound jet and Oregon commitment has been rumored in recent weeks as a prospect that many expect to re-open his recruitment with DeSoto's season having concluded. Should the Under Armour All-America de-commit, Ohio State is expected to be heavily in the mix along with Notre Dame. Texas and Oklahoma State have also been mentioned behind the scenes, but Wilson still desires to go away from home for college.

Also considered- Five-star defensive tackle and USC commitment Eddie Vanderdoes, Top247 cornerback and LSU commitment Rashard Robinson, Top247 all-purpose back and Mississippi State commitment Kailo Moore, Top247 safety and Virginia commitment Tim Harris and Top247 defensive end and Auburn commitment Tashawn Bower.
