Four-Star QB To Northwestern

Thorson will stay local, chooses Northwestern.

For a second straight year, Northwestern has landed a four-star quarterback from the Chicago area.

Wheaton (Ill.) North signal-caller Clayton Thorson reported to 247Sports that he committed to the Wildcats on Sunday evening. Pat Fitzgerald and his staff landed four-star Matt Alviti in 2013.

"Coach Fitzgerald always asks how can the next four years prepare you for the next 40 years and my answer was playing for Coach Fitzgerald and getting an education at Northwestern," Thorson said. "Also growing up in the west suburbs of Chicago, Northwestern is close to home, so that was definitely a plus and my parents and family can come see me play."

Thorson is the second commit for Northwestern in 2014 and the second four-star, joining Texas safety Jordan Thomas.

"Obviously they did very well last year and they won 10 games," Thorson said. "I just want to be part of what Coach Fitzgerald is doing at Northwestern, and win Big Ten championships and eventually National Championships, and I want to be part of the Northwestern team and help Coach Fitzgerald eventually accomplish that goal."

Ranked by the 247Composite as the nation's No. 10 pro-style passer, Thorson also had offers from the likes of Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Ole Miss, Penn State and Syracuse.
