Best classes by position- defense

Even though there is still more than a month to go before national signing day, many programs have pieced together some impressive classes at the different positions. Here’s a look at who has the top classes by position currently on the defensive side of the ball.

Kenny Bigelow is the nation's No. 15 overall prospect and has been committed to USC for more than a year.





Defensive line- USC

The pick on the defensive line is USC as it is a key part of the Trojans top- ranked recruiting class. While Lane Kiffin and staff have recruited two of the top defensive tackles in the 2013 cycle in Kenny Bigelow and Eddie Vanderdoes, the Trojans also have a trio of talented defensive ends.

Kenny Bigelow, DT, Elkton (Md.) Eastern Christian- Bigelow is the No. 15 overall prospect in the 2013 class with a rating on 99. He has a 247Composite rating of .9937. Both numbers equate to five stars.
Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, Auburn (Calif.) Placer- Vanderdoes is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 99. He has a 247Composite rating of .9904. Both numbers equate to five stars.
Kylie Fitts, SDE, Redlands (Calif.) East Valley- Fitts is the No. 92 overall prospect in the 2013 class with a 94 rating. The 6-foot-4, 241-pounder has a 247Composite rating of .9544. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Torrodney Prevot, WDE, Houston (Texas) Alief Taylor-Prevot is the No. 188 overall prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 92. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder has a 247Composite rating of .9251. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Jason Hatcher, WDE, Louisville (Ky.) Trinity- The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Hatcher has a rating of 89, making him the highest three-star prospect. He has a 247Composite rating of .9288, which equates to four stars.

Linebacker- Notre Dame





The prospects

There was talk he may flip to Florida, but four-star Alex Anzalone is now firmly part of the country's best linebacker class at Notre Dame.

The top linebacker class is a very tight race between the Fighting Irish and Florida. Having the top prospect at this position in the country gave Notre Dame the edge.

Jaylon Smith, OLB, Fort Wayne (In.) Bishop Luers- Smith, the nation’s top linebacker prospect, is the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 100. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder has a 247Composite rating of .9985. Both numbers equate to five stars.
Alex Anzalone, LB, Reading (Pa.) Wyomissing- The 6-foot-3, 232-pound Anzalone is the No. 43 overall prospect in the class with a rating of 95. He has a 247Composite rating of .9699. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Doug Randolph, OLB, Woodberry Forest (Va.)- Randolph is a four-star prospect with a 90 rating, as well as a 247Composite rating of .9064, which also makes him a four-star.
Michael Deeb, ILB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage- The 6-foot-2, 237-pound Deeb is a three-star prospect with an 88 rating, as well as 247Composite rating of .8712, which also is a three star.

Defensive back- Georgia

Georgia not only has 30 current total commitments in the 2013 class, but also a grand total of eight, and possibly nine, defensive backs in the fold.



The prospects

Tray Matthews, S, Newnan (Ga.)- Matthews is the No. 104 overall prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 94. The 6-foot-1, 192-pound physical prospect has a 247Composite rating of .9541. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Shaq Wiggins, CB, Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek- The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Wiggins is the No. 181 overall prospect in the class with a rating of 92. He has a 247Composite rating of .9314. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Brendan Langley, CB/S, Marietta (Ga.) Kell- Langley is the No. 171 overall prospect in the class with a rating of 92. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has a 247Composite rating of .9208. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Shaquille Fluker, S, Scooba (Miss.) East Mississippi C.C.- The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Fluker is the No. 27 overall JUCO prospect in the 2013 class with a rating of 91, which equates to four stars. The former Meridian, Miss., star has a 247Composite rating of .8515, which equates to three stars.
Reggie Wilkerson, CB, Citra (Fla.) North Marion- Wilkerson has a rating of 90. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has a 247Composite rating of .9091. Both numbers equate to four stars.
Paris Bostick, S, Tampa (Fla.) Plant- The 6-foot-0, 217-pound Bostick is a three-star prospect with a rating of 87.
Kennar Johnson, CB, Perkinston (Miss.) Mississippi Gulf Coast- The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior college prospect is a three-star prospect with an 84 rating.
Quincy Mauger, S, Marietta (Ga.) Kell- The 6-foot-0, 190-pound Mauger is a three-star prospect with an 82 rating.
