Rebels land nation's top JUCO

Lavon Hooks is heading to Ole Miss.

Ole Miss landed the nation’s top overall junior college prospect when defensive tackle Lavon Hooks faxed his letter-of-intent to the Rebels on Wednesday night, Rebels247 reports.

Hooks was set to announce earlier this week, but delayed his decision multiple times. Washington, Auburn, Mississippi State and Nebraska all were in the mix for his services.

Originally from Auburn, Ga., Hooks enjoyed a standout career at Northeast Mississippi Junior College. The 6-foot-4, 295-pounder had 51 tackles (20.5 for loss) this past season.

He joins fellow junior college defensive tackle Jarran Reed, jumbo athlete Jeremy Liggins and Memphis East prospect Herbert Moore in what could up being the top defensive line class in the country should the Rebels, as expected, land the nation’s top overall prospect Robert Nkemdiche. They also are strongly in the mix for four-star defensive end Elijah Daniel and are working Auburn five-star defensive end commit Carl Lawson.

Hooks is commitment No. 21 for Ole Miss in the 2013 class.
