Breakdown: Matthew Thomas to FSU

Matthew Thomas-Booker T. Washington-OLB-2013

Scouting Report from Gerry Hamilton

“Thomas is one of the most athletic linebackers in recent classes. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder has uber impressive wingspan and the frame to carry 230-pounds or more. On the field, Thomas is underrated from a physicality standpoint, and is versatile with the ability to play off the edge and rush the passer, drop fluidly in coverage and run with tight ends and backs, and could even spin to the middle on third downs and not be a liability against the run. Thomas diagnoses, closes quick and consistently shows the ability to strike in space.”

Commitment Impact from JC Shurburtt

"When you add Thomas to what Florida State already has at linebacker, both committed in this class and on campus, it really makes for an impressive get for the Noles. Throw in that this staff lost veteran south Florida recruiters Eddie Gran and James Coley after the season and it's a tremendous effort to get Thomas in the fold."
