Flurry of weekend commitments

A flurry of commitments came down over the weekend. The two most significant ones- Robert Hubbs and Chris Jones- landed just before the workday got into full swing on Monday.

Chris Jones will bring his intense competitiveness to Louisville

Chris Jones- 5-11, 185-pounds, point guard, Northwest Florida State College

Louisville was seeking a top flight point guard to replace Peyton Siva, and the Cardinals accomplished their mission in landing Jones. A high four-star prospect with a grade of 97, Jones has gained the label as one of the most talented and competitive lead guards in the country.

Next up on the Louisville 2013 wish list is No. 8 ranked Marcus Lee. The promising forward out of California is considering offers from California and Kentucky as well as Louisville's offer.

Robert Hubbs- 6-5, 180-pounds, shooting guard, Newbern (Tenn.) Dyer Co., No. 12 247Sports ranking, No. 19 247Composite ranking

As Hubbs high school coach Derek McCord told 247Sports, Coach Cuonzo Martin of Tennessee put all his shooting guard recruiting eggs into the Hubbs' basket. That all in effort by the Tennessee coach paid off with a commitment from the No. 12 ranked prospect in the country.

Now the question is whether or not the high scoring guard can influence his friend and summer teammate Austin Nichols (No. 25 ranking) to travel across the state to the University of Tennessee. Coach Martin is also pursuing top 50 forward Johnathan Williams III out of the Memphis area.

Malcolm Allen and Marcus Allen- 6-2 combo guards, Las Vegas (Nev.) Centennial HS, Three-star prospects

Stanford's basketball program parlayed its football teams enormous win over USC into a dual commitment from the Allen twins. Marcus is considered the more talented of the two.

Moses Kingsley is a force around the rim

Kendrick Nunn- 6-3, 175-pounds, shooting guard, Chicago (Ill.) Simeon HS, No. 63 247Sports ranking, No. 53 247Composite ranking

Once a Texas A&M commitment, Nunn opted instead to stay close to home and become the third member of Illinois' 2013 recruiting class. A hard nosed competitor with a solid all around game, Nunn should have an impact for Illinois sooner than later in his career.

Moses Kingsley- 6-9, 215-pounds, center, Huntington (W.V.) Prep, No. 29 247Sports ranking, No. 45 247Composite ranking

Arkansas is bringing in a top shelf post combination in Kingsley and No. 20 ranked Bobby Portis. Both prospects are extremely athletic with a ton of upside. Kingsley has the potential to dominate games around the basket defensively and is rapidly improving offensively.

Anthony Barber- 6-1, 160-pounds, point guard, Hampton (Va.) HS, No. 28 247Sports ranking, No. 13 247Composite ranking

North Carolina State's landing of Barber was a touch of foreshadowing for the Chris Jones commitment to Louisville. Once Louisville knew they could land the juco point guard, the program and Barber went separate ways.

The question now is whether or not incoming freshman point guard Tyler Lewis and Barber can play together in the backcourt for the Pack or will they have to fight it out for the point guard spot. Both have similar games and are regarded as four-star prospects by 247Sports.

RaShawn Powell- 6-0, 165-pounds, point guard, Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips HS, No. 97 247Sports ranking, No. 81 247Composite ranking

Memphis got another scoring lead guard in the mold of current point guard Joe Jackson in the commitment of Powell. Memphis' gain was Alabama's loss in the Powell sweepstakes. Alabama also suffered a big loss when Anthony Barber opted for North Carolina State.

Powell joins four-star forward Nick King and four-star shooting guard Markel Crawford in the 2013 Memphis recruiting class.

Rondae Jefferson- 6-7, 215-pounds, small forward, Chester (Pa.) HS, No. 15 247Sports ranking, No. 11 247Composite ranking

Arizona actually struck just prior to the weekend with a Thursday night commitment from Jefferson. A multi-talented forward, Jefferson was the top target of Sean Miller's 2013 recruiting effort.

Now Arizona can bring even more focus into the recruitment of talented wing scorer Keith Frazier.
