Rutgers steals Florida linebacker

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School three-star linebacker Skai Moore had been leaning to Rutgers for a few weeks. On Tuesday night, he decided to go ahead and make it official that he is a Scarlet Knight.

Moore helped his team to the FHSAA Class 3A State Championship this past weekend.

“I committed tonight,” Moore said.

Moore, who chose Rutgers over Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, TCU, and others, explained the timing of the decision.

“The reason why I hadn’t done it in the past previous weeks is that I was focusing on the state run with my team,” Moore said. “I wanted to have no distractions.

“Once we got the job done in states, I just felt like there was no reason for me to wait any longer,” Moore added. “I wanted to get it over with.”

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker made it official with a pair of Rutgers coaches in his living room.

“I feel like I have known where I wanted to go for a little bit now,” Moore said. “(Linebackers) Coach (Dave) Cohen and (Defensive Coordinator) Coach (Robb) Smith came down to see me today. We had a great talk.

“They were extremely excited,” Moore added. “A great hug from both of the coaches.”

He then phoned his future head coach and shared the news with him.

“I called (head) Coach (Kyle) Flood and let him know the news,” Moore said. “He was happy. He welcomed me to the family. Everyone was happy tonight.”

With his decision to commit to Rutgers, Moore will continue to play alongside defensive end/outside linebacker Nick Internicola, his teammate the past several years at University School.

“I am looking forward to it,” Moore said. “He is a great, great football player and a great friend. He is one of my best friends on the football team. I am pretty excited to go up there with him and win championships.”

Moore will officially visit Rutgers on January 18th. He is now done with the recruiting process.
