Big Shots EYB Recap

Wake Forest commitment Shelton Mitchell was unstoppable all weekend

Standouts

2014 SG L.J. Peak (CP3 All-Stars)
Peak looked dominating when he took the floor consistently making plays on the defensive end that he turned into highlight reel dunks on the offensive end. The 6-foot-5 wing also displayed the type of high level motor attacking the glass off the dribble while being a shut down defender on the ball.

2014 PG Shelton Mitchell (CP3 All-Stars)
Mitchell has re-shaped his body to look leaner and stronger. It has paid off as the 6-foot-4 point guard looks much quicker and was nearly unstoppable all weekend. Mitchell still needs to work on his perimeter shooting but there are few point guards better at distributing the ball in the 2014 class than Mitchell.

2014 PG Zack Johnson (Team Breakdown)
Johnson showcased his ability to be a full time point guard this weekend handling the ball extremely well and taking contact in the open court. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect was excellent at getting to the rim and finishing but also displayed the ability to get other teammates involved in the scoring.

2015 PG Damontre Jefferson (Milwaukee Running Rebels)
Jefferson’s weekend was cut short by the Rebels needing to catch a plane back to Milwaukee however when the 5-foot-8 point guard took the floor he was dynamic. In the early Saturday game, Jefferson connected on 10-of-13 shots and finished the game with 28 points. The shifty guard is tough off the dribble and finishes extremely well in the lane.

2015 SG Antonio Blakeney (E1T1 16)
The MVP of the 16 and under division, Blakeney was instrumental in leading his team to a championship over the weekend. Excellent in the open court, Blakeney also displayed the ability to knock down the open three point shot. The 6-foot-3 guard finished the tournament averaging 10 points per game that included the dunk of the weekend on Sunday.

2015 PF Alex Owens (E1T1 16)
The 6-foot-8 power forward displayed an aggressive style around the basket using his size to gain position and score with an array of post moves. Owens is deceptively quick on the glass rebounding and can start the transition break with a solid outlet pass or with a few dribbles and a kick ahead pass.

2016 SF Harry Giles (CP3 All-Stars 16)
Giles showed the ability that is expected of him averaging 15 points per game in the 16 and under division. The 6-foot-8 forward is strong around the basket but he did some damage taking his defender off the dribble from the three point line and being able to finish with a short jumper. Giles was fantastic around the rim snagging offensive rebounds and getting easy points to lead his CP3 team.

Sleeper Alert

2014 Jacobi Boykins is a player to keep an eye on this AAU season.

2014 SF Jacobi Boykins (Team Breakdown)
Heading into the start of AAU season the 6-foot-5, 170-pound Boykins holds offers from Jacksonville and Florida Gulf Coast. There are a few high majors that are showing interest but that could change if Boykins continues to perform as he did at Big Shots. Despite a slender frame, Boykins averaged 15 points per game showing the ability to knock down the perimeter jumper and attack the basket off the dribble.
