UK tops team recruiting rankings

With three top-six recruits highlighting a five-person 2011 class, and the addition of transfer Ryan Harrow from N.C. State, Kentucky finds itself in a familiar position – atop the basketball recruiting team rankings.

Michael Gilchrist is one reason Kentucky tops our class of 2011 basketball team recruiting rankings.

247Sports and our partners at PrepStars.com are proud to unveil our top 50 programs in the final class of 2011 team rankings.

Today, we’re releasing our top 25. Yesterday we released teams 26-50.

The Big East led the way with 12 teams in the top 50. Rob Harrington of PrepStars.com noted that was significant for a couple of reasons.

“The conference obviously remains very strong at the top, and schools that haven't been as powerful recently — such as St. John's, Cincinnati and DePaul — took a step forward,” Harrington said. “The most common criticism of the conference has been a lack of strength top to bottom, and the 2011 recruiting cycle should alleviate some of that disparity.

“St. John's was the obvious selection for biggest surprise. The Red Storm didn't sign anyone in the top 25, but loaded up on top-75 prospects - the kind of guys who will upgrade the talent level and also stay in school long enough to establish a new foundation.”
