May 2011: January is a big body, well-development with good, lean muscle that translates into above-average quickness as a player. He’s very athletic and uses that athleticism to aggressively compete on the glass, finish in traffic and contest shots as a defender. January’s offensive skills today translate more toward an interior player with an ability to slash off the dribble from the perimeter. His jump shot and shooting stroke is outstanding, producing excellent ball rotation and a soft bounce on the rim if it’s not going straight through the net. Still, there’s work to be done there and fortunately January’s form provides a very nice foundation from which to build. Working in January’s favor is his ability to defend both the small and power forward positions. Because of his “tweener” or hybrid-forward look and feel, January seems more ideal for a team that prefers an up-tempo, spread-the-floor style of play so as to not trap January exclusively on the low block.
