Ward at free safety for six games, he ranked among the team ‘s top three tacklers in seven of its last nine outings while earning 10 starts … He completed his first season with a team-high 90 stops, parlaying his efforts into being named first-team Freshman All-America (CollegeFootballNews.com and Phil Steele Publications) … Credited with a career-high 12 stops in the Rose Bowl setback to Ohio State, he paced his team in tackles on three occasions while eclipsing double figures three times … Credited with 11 stops vs. Stanford and Oregon State (nine unassisted), he posted nine tackles (seven solo) while making his debut in the starting lineup against Purdue … Made what was potentially a game-saving play vs. the Boilermakers, knocking a receiver out of the back of the end zone in the final seconds to break-up a two-point conversion attempt … Finishing second on the team with three interceptions (tying for 12th in the league), he came up with fourth-quarter thefts to seal wins over Utah (to go along with eight tackles) and UCLA … Ranked eighth in the Pac-10 in tackles with a 6.9 avg.

BEFORE OREGON — Earned first-team all-state accolades (calhisports.com) as well as four-star acclaim by Scout.com, which also included him on its California top 100 (61st) … The PrepStar all-West Region selection ranked as the 20th prep safety in the country in addition to earning Northern California player-of-the-year honors by GoldenStatePreps.com … The EA Sports second-team All-American also was included on Tacoma News Tribune’s Western 100 list of elite recruits … Completed his senior season passing for 1,827 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 1,527 yards (6.9 avg.) and 20 more TDs … In addition to his 3,354 yards of total offense (18th in the state), also accumulated 81 tackles (4th in the league), three quarterback sacks and three interceptions for a squad that finished the year with a 13-1 record, a Monticello Empire League title, and ranked 15th in the state … Also led the league in punting (6th in the section), averaging 38.9 yards per kick … Rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while completing eight of 15 passes for 159 yards and another score to lead the Indians to the Sac-Joaquin Division I sectional championship his senior year over St. Mary’s, 38-36.
