Bio
Attended Westchester High School (Los Angeles), leading his club to back-to-back state titles as a junior and senior. Mayes came of age late in his freshman campaign at Arizona, playing well throughout the Pac-12 Tournament and then scoring a career-high 16 points against Texas in a NCAA tournament second round victory. Mayes, who struggled at the foul line as a freshman (50%) is off to a strong start at the charity stripe this season, sinking 14-of-18 attempts through Arizona's first 13 games this season. Mayes shares point guard responsibilities with true frosh Josiah Turner, but is capable of playing either guard position thanks to his shooting stroke that's effective beyond the 3-Point arc.
Injury Update
Mayes suffered a foot injury on Feb. 2, 2012 during Arizona's win over California. Mayes did not fracture his foot as originally thought. However, the injury is to the same foot Mayes had surgery on over the summer and it remains to be seen whether he'll play again this season.
