May 2011: Rose is recovering from a fractured foot injury, but is beginning to show signs of the speed and quickness that had made him a top point guard in the Class of 2012.
What's to like is his court awareness and more specifically, his score and clock awareness. By way of example, with his team trailing by three points and less than 16 seconds remaining in a game at the Nike EYBL in Los Angeles, Rose set up his defender at the top of the key and drove along the right side of the paint. He drew a frontline defender and forced the perimeter defense to collapse (expecting him to take the shot). Instead, Rose elevated and threw a perfect baseline pass to a wide open teammate behind the 3-Point line. The shot was missed, but Rose’s playmaking abilities and “smarts” were abundantly present. He’s a tough, long-armed defender. Offensively, he can easily see over the defense and uses the dribble well to set up scoring opportunities for everyone on the court, including himself. He has a silky shot release and proved to be an efficient scorer based on impressive shot selection. Rose is one of those players where he doesn't have to do too much to accomplish a lot for his team.
