BYU Lands In-State Three-Star QB

Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon three-star quarterback Zachary Wilson signed with Brigham Young on Thursday...

Zachary Wilson is staying home.

Less than a week after taking his official visit to Brigham Young, the three-star quarterback from Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon signed with the Cougars on Thursday. Wilson landed Pac-12 offers from California and Oregon State in the days leading up to the early signing period, but BYU made a tremendous impression down the stretch.

"I really like the coaching staff and I think the opportunity to play early there is great," Wilson told 247Sports. "The new offensive coordinator (Jeff Grimes) gives me great hope that the program will be flipped around. I love the schedule they play and, most of all, I think it really means something to me to play in front of my family and friends and be able to be close to home.

"Provo is a great place to live and a lot of my friends will be going there too, which makes it that much better. I can graduate with one of the best undergrad degrees in the country, so that really means a lot to me. The connections BYU has for after college are awesome if I want to live in Utah the rest of my life, hopefully helping me with a lot of job opportunities."

Wilson committed to Boise State this past summer and visited campus numerous times, including officially in early November. But a few days after head coach Bryan Harsin held his in-home meeting, BYU, along with Iowa, started to push for the 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect to visit. Wilson, the No. 2-rated quarterback in the state of Utah for the 2018 class, added from the Beavers and Golden Bears after each of those programs lost commitments from quarterbacks.

In 10 games this season, Wilson completed 57 percent of his pass attempts for 2,986 yards and 24 touchdowns, and added nearly 800 yards rushing as well. BYU signed two-star dual-threat prospect Stacy Conner out of Texas earlier this week.
