One of the top linebacker prospects in the Midwest, Youngstown Cardinal Mooney's Luke Fulton, has completed his first official visit, and the 48-hour stay at Northwestern was a big hit for the three-star recruit.

Fulton, 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, has the ability to play any of the three linebacker positions and can also stay on the field for all three downs because of his talent in being able to drop in coverage.

With over 30 offers, Fulton has been a household name in recruiting circles the entire year. He talked about his first official in glowing terms.

"Being at Northwestern was great and I was there with my entire family," Fulton stated. "I'm really starting to narrow things down in my recruitment, and I decided to take the official visit because Northwestern is a place that is a little further away from my home. They have been showing interest for a while, but once they offered I decided to take the official there."

"Things have heated back up with Northwestern recently and they finally offered me a few weeks ago," he added. "Coach (Tim) McGarigle is the new linebackers coach, and we are building a relationship. I was the first linebacker he offered, and I've always liked Northwestern a lot. The visit was one I will never forget, and I was really able to get a good feel for the Northwestern program that I haven't gotten on any unofficial visits."

"Being able to hang out with the linebackers, and spend time with Coach (Pat) Fitzgerald and his family was really special to me," he continued. "I was also able to speak to some other recruits that were on visits. This visit puts Northwestern way up there in my mind, because no other school can offer the combination of academics and football, and they've given me a lot to think about."

So what will come next for Fulton, who is hoping to be able to make his college choice prior to the start of his senior season?

"As far as Northwestern goes, the coaches know that this was going to be my last trip there before I decide and they know I want to decide in the next few months," Fulton explained. "I'm not sure I'm going to be able to take all five official visits, because I have taken so many unofficial visits so far."

"Wisconsin offered recently, and I really want to take an official visit there in the next few weeks," he noted. "This will be a perfect opportunity to get out there and meet the coaches, and see everything Wisconsin has to offer because I'm very interested in them. I don't have a date yet for the official to Wisconsin, but it will be a weekend coming up real soon."

"I also want to get back to Michigan State for a one-day trip, and I'm going to go there this Wednesday," he said. "My mom and my brothers haven't seen Michigan State yet, so we're going to take an unofficial visit there. I want them to see Michigan State because I'm considering them highly, and it will them compare it to Northwestern since they were with me on that trip."

With a decision coming in a matter of weeks, would there be any other visits on the table for Fulton to make prior to deciding?

"There could be one or two more, but at this point I've been to all the schools that have offered me that I'm interested in," Fulton admitted. "I haven't cut my list down officially, but I would say that Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin are way up there for me, and some others would be Kentucky, Duke, Pittsburgh and Nebraska."

"I know I want to make this decision before my senior year, so I can just enjoy my senior season," he mentioned.

Fulton is ranked as the No. 22 inside linebacker in the country by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
