'What if' is perhaps the most intriguing question in sports. For my money, it spawned one of the most interesting book chapters ever about the NBA in Bill Simmons' "The Book of Basketball." College football, with the open season nature of recruiting, certainly has plenty of those types of stories. There are some obvious ones in history, but here we'll explore some recruiting decisions that shaped to the 2017 season.

Would Baker Mayfield be close to a household name had he landed in the Palouse?

Would Lamar Jackson have been swallowed up by Florida's quarterback affliction?

Does Georgia make a CFB Playoff run if head-hunting linebacker Roquan Smith is doing his thing in Westwood?

And, oh my gosh, poor Rutgers!

Let's get going.
